To not know what to buy my 21 year old niece

I'm so cr*p at buying presents. I literally give cash. But she's turning 21, and I wanted to give her something she will remember. She's a girly girl but not into makeup, she likes jewellery, she's at uni atm doing medicine- living away. She like cosy things, she like fashion but I never buy ppl clothes or shoes cos I think it's personal preference . Any ideas? X

Perfume? It's something she can enjoy daily for a long while

See if her parents can tell you what perfumes she has/had and go with something I'm a similar category

If she likes jewellery and she’s girly have a look on the Tiffany’s website. Their stuff is always popular with young women.

Will she do shifts in hospital as part of her degree? What about one of those clip on lapel watches docs/nurses wear? Make it a really nice one and pop and engraving on the back?

Just trying to be practical Grin

Disagree with Tiffany. It was a brand those of us 30 and up coveted 'back in the day' but it's not one of those brands that younger people really look to nowadays.
Monica Vinader and Missoma much more so. I know they aren't 'luxury' in the same sense, but definitely something a 21 year old is more likely to wear.

thisplaceisweird · 25/11/2022 10:47

The annoying thing about turning 21 is that everyone wants to buy you 'something special to remember' and you end up with a ton of stuff you don't really use and appreciate as an everyday thing.

I think that you need to talk to her parents. None of my girls would have wanted the suggestions on here. I have always loved red wine. I chose an expensive decanter for my 21st, my friends laughed about it. I still use it with my adult DD. One birthday I got her a decanter, because she likes reds that need decanting. She also got a personalised Zippo, wine stopper and personalised good wine glass. My middle DD got a watch. My eldest picked a locker to go on a chain her partner bought. There might be a bag etc that she wants and would like vouchers.

I mean the suggestions from previous threads.

Skatewing · 25/11/2022 10:54

I find you can't go wrong with a neutral throw or cashmere scarf.
Practical and useful as well as a touch of luxury.

TheFlis12345 · 25/11/2022 11:22

What’s your budget? Monica Vinader has a huge Black Friday sale on, up to 50% off.

girlmom21 · 25/11/2022 11:30

Get her some nice loungewear. Practical and style doesn't particularly matter because she'll only use it at home.

tigerlily0 · 25/11/2022 11:30

Thanks for all the suggestions! I was flicking between something fun or something practical. Iv asked her mum aswell. Will look at jewellery.

In all honesty - she's studying medicine I'd get her a littman stethoscope, they can be engraved

holierthanthou73 · 25/11/2022 11:38

I would ask her if there is anything she would particularly like, dull I know just my opinion x

Oh yeah, or a nice one of those watches they have clipped to their uniforms - they can be engraved too

Sorry, but this isn’t true.

Absolutely not!

If she's away can you go and visit and take her out somewhere instead, do something together.

RobertaFirmino · 25/11/2022 14:46

She's a student. She probably needs money more than she needs a cashmere throw or a necklace.
