It's just hit our household for the first time. Ds tested positive Tuesday. I've felt rough all night, coughing, chills, achy - oh the achy hips are very annoying. Ds complained of an achy back and legs and not being able to sleep and after a very disturbed night myself can see why. Dd is also feeling similar to me.

How long did it take you all to recover?

I hate being ill. I must ring work but feel guilty even though it can't be helped and they definitely wouldn't want me in.

I had it in July during the heatwave. I have never felt as ill and was triple jabbed. Took about 2 weeks to fully recover and another couple of weeks thereafter to get over the exhaustion.

Third and fourth days after onset of symptoms were the worst. My symptoms were:

Feeling of overall weirdness at the start
Metallic feeling
Metallic headache
Exhaustion
Fever
Alternating clammy and chilly
Vile stenching diarrhoea
Nausea
Brain fog
Burning skin on chest
Heartburn/acid indigestion mimicking chest pain.
About a week in, burning sensation moving up nose leading to severe sneezing then lose of smell.
Appetite loss
Feeling down - made me cry
Feeling panicked with the burning chest skin and heartburn
Feeling worse each day to start.

Genuine question: are the vaccines really working? Why are people who've had their booster still suffering so much?

I mean this nicely but really they're not. Go look up the "Lungs" threads from March/April 2020 if you want to see what covid was like for many, pre vaccine. People were really ill for weeks with a whole host of weird symptoms, then took weeks/months to recover. Now a bad case is usually a few days or a week of feeling rough then a couple of weeks of feeling tired. It's a shock though if you are expecting a mild cold and get something more akin to flu that knocks you out for a couple of weeks.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 27/11/2022 23:47

I had it in June. Aside aching and having a temperature the first day of positive test. I literally felt like I was on the tail end of a mild cold and had I been allowed to go to work and earn money instead of losing it from not being in (can't WFH in my job) I would've done. Unfortunately though I had lovely strong positives for 10 days so that ruled that one out

it really worries me reading this thread. I am clinically vulnerable due to serious heart & autoimmune issues and live alone. Somehow I have managed to avoid Covid so far.

I have no idea how to cope with some of the symptoms described, such as not being able to get out of bed / vomiting causing dehydration etc. in the ‘alone’ scenario.

It would be really helpful to know what medications people have found useful in tackling their symptoms. What would you have stocked up with if you had know what you were going to experience?

You will be eligible for anti virals so ring your GP asap of you test positive.

Untitledsquatboulder · 28/11/2022 00:03

@Warmwesterly make sure you have a thermometer, an oximeter, sugar and salt to make rehydration solution (I'd say buy some diarolite sachets but there seems to be a national shortage), paracetamol/ibruphrophen and some throat pastilles in case you get a killer sore throat. And have your gp on speed dial, there is other stuff they can prescribe depending on your symptoms. Keep some really quick and easy food - tins of soup / crackers - in stock.

But beyond that, if you get sick to the point you can't manage at home, then you will be taken into hospital and nursed there. It's not just the icu cases that are admitted.

Untitledsquatboulder · 28/11/2022 00:06

Oh, I forgot, gaviscon in case you get acid reflux.

Keeping your vitamin d levels nice and high before you catch it helps too.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 28/11/2022 08:38

I tested negative yesterday and today is my 5th day. I was testing before that because DS1 had it so I wonder if there’s a very mild varient going around. I don’t think I would have necessarily realised I had it if I hadn’t tested but because I did I could go back to bed with a clear conscience. I didn’t have a cough or fever, just felt a bit knackered and could easily have put that down to not sleeping well the night before.

Mollyplop999 · 28/11/2022 12:25

I feel pretty much OK now but it's day 12 and I'm still testing positive.

JohnsShirt · 28/11/2022 12:26

I had it in October, completely wiped out for a month.

NotAnotherCrisis · 28/11/2022 12:30

@Edenrose206 I've got it now for the second time and the vertigo / unable to get up was horrendous this morning until DH got me a lucazade.

Surprised I'm so poorly despite being quadruple jabbed, young and generally fit!

cushioncovers · 28/11/2022 12:35

I had it for the first time 5 weeks ago. I had all the classic symptoms and felt dreadful for about 5 days. The fatigue stayed with me for about 4 weeks, now I'm 5 weeks on and I still have a silly phylemy cough and can't smell properly but other than that im back to normal. Im 52 years old and female for relevance.

cushioncovers · 28/11/2022 12:37

Oh yes I forgot to mention the dizziness and vertigo. And brain fog obviously. I've also still got short bouts of dizziness and vertigo although it's getting better.

Fishnchip · 28/11/2022 13:45

Covid first timer here too! Started Wednesday 23rd Nov in the evening with a scratchy throat and mild cough. Then Thursday and Friday congestion with a banging headache. Thought it was just a cold but then I had a hellish Saturday night with horrendous all over body/muscle aches, jelly legs, a horrible crawling sensation under my skin (can’t really describe it) I also felt dizzy and nauseous. Did a test Sunday morning and had a strong positive result. Feeling slightly better today now that the body aches have eased. Still have a banging head and generally feel blahhh! Weirdly cough not too bad. Hoping it passes quickly!

Warmwesterly · 28/11/2022 15:41

@Untitledsquatboulder thank you. All on the shopping list for this week !!
