NHS low income scheme

Hello all, posting here as it gets a lot of traffic and thought as many people as possible should know about it.

The NHS are trialling a scheme for those on low incomes (who wouldn't usually get assistance)

If you have a low income, the NHS Low Income Scheme could help you pay for:

NHS prescription charges
NHS dental treatment charges
the cost of sight tests, glasses and contact lenses
the cost of travelling to receive NHS treatment
NHS wigs and fabric supports (check with your hospital for their arrangements for supplying NHS wigs)

How much help you get depends on your weekly income and necessary outgoings, plus any savings or investments you have at the time you apply. If the amount you have left is low, you may be able to get help through the NHS Low Income Scheme. Any help you’re entitled to is also available to your partner, if you have one.

If you have already paid for treatment, you can apply for a refund at the same time as you apply for the scheme.

We’ll normally assess your application within 18 working days from the date we get your form.

Anyway, I thought it may help a few people.

@IsItaCowIsItaPlane
Thank you so much. I'm NHS but wouldn't qualify but I can let it others know who will👍

That's very useful information, OP.

I'll pass it on.

I don't think this is a new scheme. It's just that you can now apply online when it used to be a tortuous paper-based form. My student ds applied and got the certificate 5 years ago.

We are trialling a new service where some people can apply online for the NHS Low Income Scheme. You can only apply online if you do not have capital or savings of over £6,000

It seems to be the fact you can apply online that is the new service (as you indicate).

Not really for people just on a low income. You need to be on benefits.
Oh well. NHS dentists seem to be extinct in the wild and I prepay my prescriptions anyway but that £10 a month would have helped.
