Hi,

So, I've recently been losing a lot of hair in the shower and when brushing my hair. I'm starting to worry a bit and I was wondering if anyone knows how I can help stop this whenever I brush my hair or have a shower? I'm 25 but I worry I'll have next to no hair left by the time I'm 35!

Thanks

@LifeBeginsNow things that are frequently low end of the normal range but can still cause issues.
Ferritin needs to be iirc above 70 to support hear growth but it’s often ‘normal’ at 15 (or 20, depending on the labs reference range) check what has been tested and see if anything is the lower end of normal. Normal is not the same as optimal.
Vitamin D is normal at 50 but needs to be above 75 for bone protection.
B12 can be marked as normal at 150 but can still cause symptoms that low, UK has a lower normal range than many countries for some reason.

Sympathies op I know how stressful this is.
I’ve had hair shedding for months. Started around May I think. I did have covid in January but feels like if it was covid induced it would have started sooner. Anyway I eventually had a blood test done by GP which showed my ferritin levels are 56, so not horrible but potentially low enough to be causing problems. Am now supplementing with iron, taking with vitamin C and avoiding tea/ coffee/ dairy for 2 hours around the supplement.
Thyroid TSH was also on low side (0.7) but further tests show am in range. As do hormone tests that show oestrogen is low but normal.

I use a silk pillowcase and hate washing it but know that a clean scalp is important.

Everything crossed the iron is the cause and it all slows soon!

Do speak to your GP. Good luck.
