Just that really. I’d like to start selling some crafts and could do with some tips to get me started!

I do have particular crafts in mind 🤣 it was more tips on getting people to see my shop etc. How much do you come away with if iou sell something for say £10?

Honestly... unless you're making something unusual, or have hours and hours and the money to plug into boosting your shop, I wouldn't bother.

Sorry.

Watapalava · 23/11/2022 20:26

It’s quite hard to get accepted by Etsy - I’d fish whether they’d take you first

CrochetBug · 23/11/2022 20:32

I didn't have to be 'accepted' Confused

It rather depends on whether it takes you £1 and 10 minutes to make something or £8 and a couple of hours...

Have a look on the Etsy forums, there are lots of threads there. The best tips I can give you are 1) have a product that stands out (either unique item or high quality), 2) take good photos, and 3) use your tags wisely.

Thanks for these!

I had a little shop on there, did sell a few things, but just couldn't be bothered to put the hours in, it's a lot of work for not much money, which is fine, I did enjoy it but life got in the way. I'd say ideally you need great photos and good social media. Do some researching into how to use the tags properly, it makes a massive difference to getting you seen in search results.

Watapalava · 23/11/2022 20:53

Oh I got mixed up with not on the high street!

Etsy has changed a lot over the last few years and is no longer a 'handmade' site. It's bloody hard to sell on there now. There's lots of cheap crap and reselling b&m stuff, but still fantastic crafts too. But if you're keen there's some good youtubers and many bad ones too. I recommend Kara Buntin Tutorials. Good luck.

I sell for £15 and end up with £12.50. Is horribly competitive but some people do make it work. There is a handbook online

Graphista · 23/11/2022 21:39

Placemarking as I've an idea for something I may try to sell there too.

Thanks to those replying with good advice

DealOrNoelsDeal · 24/11/2022 06:21

Thanks all, I’ll look into the tags as that seems to be important! Thanks for the YouTube recommendation

This. I used to love it for Christmas as you could get unusual handmade stuff. Now its just pages and pages of tat.

I don't mind paying extra for something actually hand made.

Maybe I'm searching wrong.

VeganFromSveden · 24/11/2022 06:46

Hi op, if you type in Sites like Etsy in search, I think you find other sites that you can sell your crafts on.
I’ve not searched extensively, I just thought it was maybe an idea to try, given that some pp are saying Etsy isn’t as good as it used to be.
Hope you find a great place to sell your talents.

DealOrNoelsDeal · 24/11/2022 23:04

Thank you!! It’s definitely something properly home made, so I hope to find somewhere where that is appreciated 😂

thanks all 🙂
