Sorry to post here, worried for DD

My DD, almost 3, came down with snuffly nose on Sunday. By Sunday evening, she had a slight fever. She seemed completely happy though. The fever continued in the night a little bit. She seemed fine in the morning and all day, bouncing around - then by 3 pm she seemed lethargic and fever came back. Never high. Only up to 38. I gave Calpol and all seemed good.

All seemed ok and then by 2 am she was a bit warm again, so I gave some more Calpol.

All seemed fine again after that and then yesterday by 3 pm it came back again, so I gave some more Calpol.

All fine again, but woke up with conjunctivitis. She was happy this morning, but now is having a fever again. Again, not high. I'm only needing to give Calpol very sporadically and not constantly, like other times she's been ill. But essentially her temp has been slightly rising periodically since Sunday. So I'm not sure if that's a hit long, or still OK ?

She's also potty training and she's in the habit of not going to pee very often because of that. She's been out of nappies for 10 /11 days.

I also think my thermometer is a bit dodgy. It sometimes shows a million different readings, so I tend to go by how she behaving.

Obvs can't get a doc appointment and think it's not urgent enough for a and e, but I will ring 111.

As she is 2, your pharmacist can give you antibiotic eye drops for the conjunctivitis.

DD woke up with a temperature on Saturday, it was 38.8 with calpol and ibuprofen. Luckily managed to get a GP appointment on Monday where it was recorded at 40.2 with a raised heart rate. Doctor gave her antibiotics. Monday and Tuesday were spent with a raised temperature only dropping to 38. The fever finally broke last night and she's woken up brighter this morning. She's also got a hacking cough which sounds really chesty.

I think there's a nasty bug going around at the moment OP. I hope your DD recovers soon.

Eye drops or ointment, give her plenty of water to drink. Bless her. They are always catching things at her age.

Sounds completely normal for a toddler. She's got a bit of a bug, she's a bit run-down. Their symptoms can often be all over the place and up and down.

Plan to have a quiet few days at home. Maybe a turn round the block in the buggy to clear her tubes out once or twice a day, and she'll bounce back.

If the temperature is responding to calculations, she's drinking and seems "well enough" in herself then I'd just keep an eye and plan some quiet days in. If she deteriorates then seek advice from your gp.

Oh, and for your own peace of mind, get a reliable thermometer. You'll get plenty of use out of it over the next few years.

to calpol Bloody phone!

How sad that we live in times where “obviously we can’t get a GP appointment”. I remember when children were seen the same day whenever you rang!

I hope your LO is okay though. You can just gently clean her eyes with warm water and a cotton pad (as long as it’s not the type to shed and leave fibre behind)

I always followed the advice of going to the GP if they had a fever for over 5 days. Fever is very common in young children and is the body's way of killing a virus. If she is well in herself and still drinking then I dont think I'd ring 111 personally unless she deteriorated or there were any additional worrying symptoms.

I did end up taking mine sometimes to out of hours (when they seemed in pain and i couldnt see why, when the fever got so high that they were breathing very fast, when they hadn't drank for what seemed like forever, and when the fever lasted for over 5 days) and each time was told just a virus and would get better by itself...and it generally did. I would go by your instincts, if she seems ok in herself (albeit ill and fed up) then they are probably ok
