To think people shouldn't beep their horn to get others to come outside?

Someone comes to pick up our neighbour's child sometimes to give her a lift to school. But instead of going to knock on the door she beeps her horn, often several times, until the child comes out. That's a bit rude, isn't it, or AIBU? This happens at about 8:30am so not super early but still. Would you do this?

100% agree!! Drives me mad. Or people who beep their horn goodbye! Why?! Our neighbours had a visitor that did this at 7.30pm about 4 times a weeks, I had a baby in bed, it really wound me up.

Keyansier · 23/11/2022 08:54

I could not imagine even getting slightly worked up over something like this. My advice would be to find a hobby!

monsteronahill · 23/11/2022 08:55

YANBU - I would find it annoying too - it's not what you're meant to use the horn for and tbh it's bloody lazy.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 23/11/2022 08:58

Has happened since I was a child, I’d not get bothered at that time of day. Not like they’re waking you at 6 or disturbing bed time. Just regular daytime noise.

It’s more polite to text/phone someone to let them know you’ve arrived but I don’t blame someone for not wanting to get out in this rain. It’s torrential, I’d stay in the car too.

Afterfire · 23/11/2022 09:03

Can’t stand people doing this. And the ones who beep then they leave! Ffs. Just drive off! I have chronic disabilities and often like to rest during the day as I don’t sleep well due to pain so horns randomly going off really pisses me off.

Thegreenballoon · 23/11/2022 09:04

Totally obnoxious. Happens here at all hours of the day - it’s sheer laziness for the most part, usually on the part of taxi drivers or food delivery drivers. Hate it.

(Yes, before I get piled on, some disabled drivers need to use the horn to eg summon help at a petrol station. That’s completely acceptable and not what I’m talking about.)

It is odd but I couldn't get worked up about it. Our neighbours when they moved in had some people over and one of them turned up in a sports car so the kids (who are older to know better 🤣) were sat in it and must have beeped the horn about 50 times minimum. Over and over beeping it whilst their parents laughed and carried on the conversation. It was odd, and not a way to create a good relationship on your new road, but I wasn't cross about it

Phrenologistsfinger · 23/11/2022 09:08

it’s too early, rude and inconsiderate. YANBU!

Too early? Too early for what?

Cucumberbund · 23/11/2022 09:10

It's so rude. I don't care now but have left over resentment from when our kids were babies. I couldn't put my little boy to sleep until the woman next door had gone out for bingo every Thursday evening with the beeping that went on. Also the daughter who lives at home used to beep when she left her own house to go work. She worked shifts as well.

DorritLittle · 23/11/2022 09:17

This has been happening since the invention of the car... As for beeping to say goodbye, that's normally a cheery beep. It's a bit killjoy to ban that!

IntrovertedPenguin · 23/11/2022 09:19

YANBU. My neighbour does this every Sunday at 7am. Angry

Just selfish idiots, why can't they call to say they are outside or actually use their legs and knock on door.

Yarrawonga · 23/11/2022 09:22

It’s actually illegal.

Rule 112 of The Highway Code states:

'The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.

You MUST NOT use your horn:

while stationary on the road
when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am except when another road user poses a danger.

LaBellina · 23/11/2022 09:23

100% agree. It’s antisocial behavior, practically everyone has a smart phone these days so they can call or get out of the car and ring the doorbell. That taxi drivers don’t do this (at least not that I ever experienced) when they are picking someone up says it’s all. It’s not polite or considerate behavior.

DariaMorgendorffer · 23/11/2022 09:28

YANBU!
