To think boxing day delivery isnt necessary

Speaking to staff in my local supermarket today and was told the store will be offering grocery delivery on Christmas eve and boxing day.

Surely this isnt needed? Imagine orderiny a shop to be delivered xmas eve to find most of it substitutes or not available with no time left before the big day to go and find the item else where. Or what is soo importantly needed it cant wait until the day after boxong day?

Wine? I wouldn’t want to run out and have none left for Boxing Day 🤣

Not everyone celebrates Christmas anyway. For some BD is just the start of the week.

FairFuming · 22/11/2022 21:17

I agree with you its totally unnecessary. And I'd freak out leaving any important deliveries until Christmas day

*Christmas eve 🤦‍♀️

It sounds crackers, but I guess they are desperate to keep their profits up.

They trialed it in a few stores last year to see if it was worth doing, apparently there was a demand, so theyre doing it in more stores this year.

Feel for the staff who have to go in and pick it, wouldnt like my Christmas to end knowing i had to start work 3am the next morning.

Totally unnecessary! Just plan & shop ahead! No need for such dramatics just because the shops are closed for a day or two!!
Let the staff enjoy the break, regardless of how they plan to spend it - celebrating or not!!

Kpo58 · 22/11/2022 21:47

I can see it being popular for those with small fridges/freezes who have just had them emptied after having the whole family over on Christmas Day.

gamerchick · 22/11/2022 21:51

Poor fuckers having to do that boxing day.

gogohmm · 22/11/2022 22:10

Hope the staff get double pay!

Supermarkets opened where I use my o live on Boxing Day but not where I live now. Where I used to live many don't celebrate Christmas and they ask them to work - in return for getting other festivals off guaranteed, worked well with the balance of the workforce

HannahsLife · 22/11/2022 22:14

No one needs a delivery on boxing day. As many people as possible should get the day off!

Ponoka7 · 22/11/2022 22:42

My DD worked in retail last year. I thought that the shops should have stayed shut on boxing Day and Easter Monday, at least as a thanks for working through Covid. McColl's has always opened Christmas day, which is just shit for the staff.

RobertaFirmino · 22/11/2022 23:05

Some people don't do Christmas though. I used to take a colleagues shifts over Ramadan/Eid and they would return the favour at Christmas.
There will be others who find Christmas difficult and would prefer to be working.
What about (for example) a nurse or copper who will be working for 4 days/nights solid and won't be off until the 26th. They deserve fresh food too.
