I had some carpet fitted last month in a new build property, they damaged the doors when they were trimming the carpets and returned a week later to apply wood filler in the damaged areas. 3 weeks after they returned, the filler has not set properly and it looks uneven, discoloured and it is very obvious where the damaged areas are.
The fitters are returning next week to reapply the filler, but am I being unreasonable by claiming on their public liability insurance if I can see any blemish or marks that resulted from their damage. It is a few small scratches, but because the door is brand new, I would like it to be restored to a brand-new condition and if that means a new door is required then so be it.
Under the 2015 consumer rights act, I have given them one chance to fix it already and they are saying to me that if they can't repair it next week then they will get another tradesman to look at it. If they can't repair it after 2 attempts, am I being unreasonable to go through their insurance as all these tradesmen are doing is covering the cracks rather than rectifying it.
