I will need to be careful as my friend uses mn but I’m looking for some advice on how best to deal with her. Her dc is 7 and has been in a wheelchair for about 12 months. DC’s doc want him out now, moving about and using his muscles but she’s completely against it. I have listened to her worries and tried to get her to focus on the positive things the doctors are telling her but it’s like she can’t hear it and just fixates completely on the negatives.

It consumes her every waking moment and she doesn’t have a good word to say about the doctors, physiotherapists, dc’s school… they are all wrong and she is right. It’s getting to the point I dread her calling. Do I just need to be blunt?

What do you mean by blunt?
I wouldn't go in telling her the professionals are right and she is wrong because she will probably just get defensive.
Maybe try and tease out with her why she feels they are wrong?
Is her resistance coming from irrational anxiety or maybe quite rational fears for her child's health?
It doesn't matter how close you are to someone you can't know their lived reality and you can't see things how they do.
I'm not saying your wrong to agree with the professionals and think you would follow their advice, but your not her and it's not your child.
So instead of pointing out the positive try asking leading questions gently?
If it's becoming too much for you maybe drop the length or frequency of the calls.

After each appointment she attends with dc she complaints that the doctors are incorrect about what they say, that she has conflicting information that she’s found online, that nobody listens to her… This is after she’s had second opinions etc. I appreciate it’s difficult for her and although I’ve tried to be understanding and supportive its frustrating that she is always looking for the worst case scenario. It’s incredibly sad that she plays down the positives I guess.
