To ask for further tests if my blood tests come back normal?

I’ve been feeling rubbish for ages now but I’m just not getting any better. I don’t know whether I’m tired due to the fact I have a 5 month old (who sleeps through the night) and my dad passed away, so that could be a factor.

When I gave birth I lost blood and my platelets were low but I’ve since had basic blood tests which show they are normal now.

My doctor has since taken full blood tests and the receptionist said they were normal but I am due to see my doctor on Wednesday so I’ll go through them in more detail then.

I have the following symptoms:

Night sweats - dripping in sweat
Dizziness
Itchy skin especially at night
Itchy eyes
Tiredness after full nights sleep
Bruising easily
Bloated tummy
Pain in stomach
Body aches
Pain in bones (shins)
Pale complexion
Hair loss
Shortness of breath
Pain in chest
Red dots on shoulder

In the past I had to fight for tests/ referrals/ diagnosis for endometriosis which took 10 years. I’m so worried that I won’t get to the bottom of what’s going on.

AIBU to ask for further testing? If so, what? Has anyone had similar symptoms?

Thank you in advance.

Have they tested ferritin? It’s not part of full blood test, needs to be asked for. For my DD she had a full blood transfusion after her first period (mad) and once her iron returned to normal they said there was nothing medically wrong they could find. Eventually a doctor tested her ferritin after I flipped as she was so blood pale (and mixed race) and having to come home from school constantly due to dizzyness / fatigue. It was 8, and should be 150

The bloating and pain needs further investigation. I would push for a referral.

100% agree with @Zanatdy as had same experience myself with Ferritin of 6 and was on the floor.
Have you been checked for post partum thyroiditis? You need full thyroid function tests (not just TSH).
Agree bloating needs further investigation too.
you need to go back to GP and be very insistent they dig further. Take care OP

Thank you for your replies.

My doctor has been fab. She has asked for further blood tests (one for blood clotting and 3 others but not sure what..). Also has arranged a chest x Ray too. Ferritin was normal as I did ask about that x

My dad passed away when I was 7 months pregnant. Don't dismiss your symptoms please. Have you asked for a colonoscopy? Could be a gut problem? Glad your doctor is on board and taking it seriously

strawberryandcreams · 23/11/2022 22:32

Sorry I meant to say- I didn't have those symptoms. Even though I was grieving and my baby didn't sleep through the night

HealthWorries123 · 23/11/2022 22:35

@strawberryandcreams I am so sorry for your loss. It’s hard isn’t it.. dealing with grief and a new baby. I haven’t asked for one but that may be an idea. I do have endometriosis on my bladder and bowel so may well be a flare Up and it’s causing other problems?!

It could be a number of things of course. I just would hate for you to dismiss symptoms and struggle with chronic pain and fatigue. Go get it checked to be on the safe side and see what they say.

Grief and new babies is the hardest thing, but almost in a way, a sense of focus makes it easier to concentrate on

strawberryandcreams · 24/11/2022 07:38

I am also sorry for your loss. And a big congratulations on your baby!
