Just a few thoughts on Zara Aleena's murderer pleading guilty today.
The court heard he was a prolific offender who had previously been jailed for criminal damage, racially aggravated harassment and unauthorised possession of a knife in prison.
He had 28 convictions for 69 separate offences including burglary, theft of a vehicle, criminal damage, assaulting police officers and assaulting members of the public while on bail.
He was released on license from prison 9 days before the murder.
This was a career criminal who had a long history of being a danger to the public and our justice system kept releasing him from prison to be exposed to the public.
It's now taken the horrific murder of an innocent woman for the system to wake up to the danger he posed.
You would think assaulting the police, assaulting members of the public while on bail, carrying a knife and a bunch of other serious offences would have rang alarm bells about the danger he posed to the public.
Whilst Zara’s family have been relieved of a lengthy trial they have lost her forever.
My question is how many other violent & dangerous men are out there on our streets who should be in prison serving lengthy sentences?
Repeat offenders who reaffirm their danger to the public should be locked up - society needs protection from them.
The Times spoke to the murderers ex partners who were also violently assaulted by him.
All the evidence prior to Zara’s murder showed that Jordan McSweeney was indeed a very dangerous man.
Why wasn't he in prison, Dominic Raab?
