To think advice about vit d levels is useless if you're already supplementing?

I've had bloods done. Very fast response by text telling me to supplement vit D, and the dose.

However, I'm already taking the usual 'high dose' and an extra 3 tablets a week as advised last time I was tested.

So now what? Take the suggested dose on top of the dose I'm already taking?

I can't find anything online to explain why it won't go up, despite supplements. I'm on an oil based supplement that's supposed to be better.

I'm not really impressed that the advice came by text, with no opportunity to point out I'm already supplementing.

I have not read the full article as there is a pay wall but i used to work in an Osteoporosis clinic and advise people on Vit D all the time.

So just to clarify in the UK you can only get Vit D from sunlight between march and sept due to the angle of the sun hitting the atmosphere. And for the same reason you can only get it between 10 am and 4 pm in the summer. You can also only get it when the sun feels warm on your bare skin, and you have no sunscreen on. Unless the scientific evidence has changed in the last two years walking in winter does no good. However, our bodies do store Vit D so if you get enough in summer then you do not need to worry.

We always said you could lie naked 24/7 in Trafalgar square from Oct to Feb and you would not get any Vit D. Darker skin people absorb far less Vit D than lighter skinned people as well.

It sounds like you need a loading dose - which is a very high level only available on prescription and the follow this with a maintenance dose.
