To think most toddlers wouldn’t just watch TV all day?

Or is mine an outlier? Watches some but I’ve got half an hour at the most. After that gets bored and destroys the house.

They are all different, one of mine would watch all day if I'd let him, the other one is only interested for 5-10 minutes. I'd say more of them are on the "watch all day if they could" side though.

Mine would watch all day if I let him.

(26 months)

Mine would. She became so grumpy when it was turned off. Would scream until it was on. Wouldn't say hello to anyone who came in etc. So we told her it was broken and after a few days she forgot about it, hasn't watched it since July!
It's all about personality, I can already tell that my 2 year old
Is highly strung with obsessive tendencies, maybe your little one is more chilled or more hyperactive?

MarianneVos · 18/11/2022 08:59

Mine would have it on all day as a background soundtrack to destroying the house.

NoAprilFool · 18/11/2022 09:00

Mine wouldn’t.
Different story now she’s 9 🙄

anon2022anon · 18/11/2022 09:00

My 3 year old would happily do so.

NCHammer2022 · 18/11/2022 09:01

Mine wouldn’t, and still wouldn’t now she’s 5. She still won’t watch a whole (children’s) film in one sitting. I’ve seen the first 30 minutes of Encanto 36839376 times.

adiosamigoo · 18/11/2022 09:02

Mine woildnt
also have to leave the cinema early so stopped taking him, I was paying £60 a go on food, tickets, parking, petrol to take him there

RambamThankyouMam · 18/11/2022 09:02

Mine (2yrs2m) gets antsy after about 30 mins of watching, but will happily potter around with it on in the background.

DS is 18 mo. He can sit, only watching it for maybe 2 minutes. More when we're in bed though, if he's struggling to settle after a nightmare or wakes up at silly o clock I put something chill on for him to watch while I doze, rather than him trying to get up for the day. But during the day he doesn't stop moving, he'll watch it as he's running round but he doesn't sit mesmerised by it.

FloorWipes · 18/11/2022 09:26

I think it maybe depends on what they are watching and how. My 3 year old is very active and doesn’t often stop moving even when watching tv. She wouldn’t watch CBeebies all day because let’s face it that is quite boring, but she will watch a good film - Mary Poppins, Encanto, A Little Princess, Matilda etc. - if it’s something other people are also watching with her. Cowatching makes her much more likely to be focused on it. Leaving her in front of a kids programme while I tried to do something else never worked! Her attention has built up over time. She was about 1 when we went to the cinema to see Frozen 2 and she lasted for about and hour and ten minutes with me providing a lot of comment and input on what was happening in the story (quietly obviously). After that we had to go into the corridor for her to practice walking which is fair enough! She is coming up for 4 and last week I confess we watched HP Deathly Hallows Pt 2 twice in a row because she can become very immersed in that world. Though like me if she’s very tired after a long day she can veg a bit longer in front of some trashier stuff which in her case would be something like Gabby’s Dollhouse. But yes plonking her in front of kids tv in the toddler years wasn’t that effective no!

LucySno · 18/11/2022 09:37

In the depths of lockdown and nursery closures, my 2yo would have CBeebies on a hell of a lot. He would potter about with toys and interact with the dog a bit and whatever adult was watching him, in between his attention being caught now and then by the tv for 10 mins or so at a time. We had the tv volume quite low.

Apart from a daily walk in the woods and bathtime and mealtimes at the table and maybe a brief kitchen dance session this was how MANY days were spent. I felt guilty about the amount of tv at the time, but reading this back I feel quite nostalgic and it sounds quite a nice way for a toddler the while away a cosy day at home.

Mines the same as yours, he is three and still can't watch a film
