To send DD to school tomorrow?

DD came out of school yesterday feeling unwell. Her throat was sore and she felt sick. When we got home I took her temp and it was about 37.5 and it wasn't long until she was sick. After she was sick she perked up a bit, ate some apple, but was tired so went to bed early.

She hasn't been sick since, she slept fine, has had no temp, and has a normal appetite.

I took a day off work today to look after her. She's eaten really well, hasn't been sick or a high temp. We played hairdressers, did some jigsaws, did some maths homework, played some piano....

The school rule is the shouldn't go back for 48H after they've been sick which means she shouldn't go back to school until Monday. However, I really need to be at work tomorrow and DH would struggle
To take the day off (he's prepared to do it but it'll have implications). We don't have anyone here to ask to look after DD.

Should I send her in if she feels ok tomorrow? Or should I follow the school rules ?

She should stay off

Fluffluff · 17/11/2022 21:28

Sadly it sounds like a bug. 48hrs is needed

justasoul · 17/11/2022 21:30

If you told the school why she was off they might not allow her back - I know my DD’s school would send them home if you took them to school before the 48h.

mangoallergy · 17/11/2022 21:30

To be honest I would send her if she only vomited once. Doesn't sound like a sick bug if it's a one off

mynameischloe · 17/11/2022 21:30

She should stay off, OP. Please think about how many people she could pass it on to.

wellholygod · 17/11/2022 21:34

What does she want to do herself? Mine are always begging to get back in school

CatGrins · 17/11/2022 21:34

You can't manage a day off work but you're prepared to pass that inconvenience on to other families?

Squirrelvillage · 17/11/2022 21:34

Please, please don't send her in. You might be at our school and we don't want sick children either.

Hankunamatata · 17/11/2022 21:38

Our Principal has had to send out a message as parents keep doing this in our school and spreading the virus so we have had children throwing up projectile style over classrooms

sleepfortheweek · 17/11/2022 21:38

@wellholygod she wants to go to school tomorrow

Yea she was only sick once. No one else in the house has been Ill.

Baffles me why this is even a question...

sleepfortheweek · 17/11/2022 21:39

Thank you everyone. We will keep her off tomorrow.

sleepfortheweek · 17/11/2022 21:42

@coffeepleeease because the financial
Implications for us for the day off is huge. Obviously, if DD had been really unwell and been sick several times etc then it wouldn't be a question at all.

I'd send her in.

NoParticularPattern · 17/11/2022 21:43

I’d love to say that it can’t be a bug. But unfortunately I think it probably is. My daughter was sick once a fortnight ago. She had a cough at the time so I thought it was that but kept her off school anyway as per rules (plus the FIRST thing she’d have told her friends was that she was sick- oh to be 4!!). No one else ill over the weekend, figured I had been a bit too OTT with keeping her off. Tuesday night comes and both her younger brothers are sick once each. And then Thursday comes and me, husband and newborn are sick once each too. So at this point I work out that it was indeed a bug and that I’m glad I didn’t send her in on the Friday! Please don’t send her. It could very easily be a bug even if it was “just” once

greaterscott · 17/11/2022 21:49

I once sent one of the dc to school the day after they'd been sick as they had been fine all afternoon/night. Turned out the bug was working it's way through the system and it came out the other end in school. Very traumatic 🤦‍♀️

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 17/11/2022 22:17

You should send her in if you cant get the day off, totally. There are only 29 other kids in the class, plus siblings and others in the school, that could catch it, and I'm sure all of their parents can take the day off to look after their ill kids without any problems at all!

Sherrystrull · 17/11/2022 22:44

It's 48 hours after sickness. Keep her off until Monday.

Babyorbuffet · 17/11/2022 22:44

Please don't send her back early..she may be well in herself but could be contageous. I'm a teacher and have 15 children out of 30 off with a sickness bug becausd they can be so highly contageous. It's not fair on the other children in the class, their parents or the teacher.

Endwalker · 17/11/2022 22:54

At my school, as soon as she mentioned she'd been sick (and she would because kids talk) we would ring you to come and collect her.

Ttbhappy · 17/11/2022 22:59

She should stay off as she could easily pass it onto other children. You can't send her as another child could be poorly and if it was me I would feel really guilty I made a child sick.

Mammyloveswine · 17/11/2022 23:10

School won't let her return if you've told them she's off due to being sick..

If you haven't told them then then it's up to your conscience..and what you know about your child..if you are sure it was just a one off and she's fine then you can hope you are right..

In terms of financial implications of taking time off I suggest you try and look into this further as my two both had chicken pox earlier this year..two weeks apart..so I had 10 full days to cover!! I'm a teacher so hard for me to be off but DH works from home so he took holiday/childcare days and was gone for the less traumatic times.. my sister stepped in..my mam did.. my best friend..

It was stressful and awful and I ended up having to take a couple of days of unpaid leave..

So try and have a back up plan/people!
