Does anybody else find noisy pubs/bars stressful?

I hate having to shout to have a conversation, being squeezed in between strangers. I just don't enjoy the atmosphere at all, hate having to squeeze past people to get to the toilet/get served at the bar.
As an aside I really dislike sitting on stools, especially sitting at the bar, it's maybe an anxiety thing but I hate the idea that the bar staff can hear all your conversation.
Does anybody else find these places stressful?

Agree. I hate them and feel all panicky.

Go to a Wetherspoons. There No 1 policy is, NO MUSIC ! You can actually have a conversation, without SHOUTING !

Needmorelego · 17/11/2022 21:08

I have never enjoyed atmosphere. Really have never seen the appeal at all.
I remember when I was 16/17 and it was such a big thing if you could get into a pub without being asked your age. But I just didn't under why anyone wanted to. I would get dragged along by friends but I was always uncomfortable and quite frankly bored out my mind.
I am a bit jealous of today's teens who prefer to hang out at coffee shops/juice bars and go to places like the gym rather than the standard "down the pub" which seemed to be the only option of a thing to do in my younger days.

Yes I did it for the first time in years recently and it was awful

I hate it too. Like to be able to sit comfortably and chat. Otherwise what's the point?

NurseBernard · 18/11/2022 03:10

I love it! The atmosphere, the people, the chat and the laughs.

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 18/11/2022 03:17

I hate anywhere noisy. I don't mind a gig or concert with loud music because the whole point of those is to be absorbed in the music but I can't conduct a conversation or think with loud background noise. I've always tended to be that way but since I turned 50 age related hearing loss has exacerbated the problem.

Last week I was at the funeral reception of a close relation and the high decibel combination of music and chatter overwhelmed me to the point I was physically sick and had to leave.

Topseyt123 · 18/11/2022 03:19

I've always hated them, so I don't go.

If I do go to a pub or restaurant I like them to be quiet ones, not so noisy and loud that I can't even hear the people I am with. What the hell is the point of that?

coronafiona · 18/11/2022 11:26

I don't like it either it's sensory overload these days. Lockdown really changed what I like I think

I agree with the general sentiment on this thread but would find going to a Wetherspoons even more stressful than a rowdy bar. They are naff as fuck and I wouldn't pay money to that man if it was the last pub chain on earth.

KimberleyClark · 18/11/2022 11:30

A pub on a Friday or Saturday night is too much for me now.
