I've been temping in an office with another young girl who has done sod all since we have both been there.l I got in all the new business and did all the admin. We both applied for the permanent job, and she got it.
Then they recruited the manager, and I didn't get that job either.
All week they have been getting cosy in the tiny office, setting things up and building their rosy future.
Today the Regional manager, who chose both of them over me, came in, and they spent all day discussing how wonderful their new jobs would be, the welcomes, the training, the trips etc etc-all of which I would have loved.
It was laughable that the girl who got the job, was aksed what the charge rates were, and in 5 weeks, she had never picked up the list, nor needed to! She didnt' even know there was a list! I had done so much new business, I knew them by heart.

sounds like your in recruitment? can you not ask why you were passed over?

You should ask the Regional manager for some feedback on your performance in the selection processes - so that 'you can develop yourself'. You will maybe get some honest feedback. You could also use this opportunity to try to say in a positive way that you felt you were more qualified / experienced. It may help for any future openings.

Can fully understand being put out & annoyed. Although the thought of being cheerful and smiling would probably crack your face right now, try to at least look as if it hasn't pissed you off - it will pay dividends in the end.

I asked why I was passed over, but the reasons don't make sense. I am a 46 year old mother of a 31/2 year old and 9 month old baby, I suspect that could have somehting to do with it.
I asked for feedback and was told that the main reason was, my answers to their question about sales, were not as good as the sucessful aplicant. Strangely, she had told me afer her interview, that she could only think of one thing, and I knew I had given quite a long list. So, I asked to have the interview notes checked, to make sure there had been no mistake. They have agreed, but nothing has materialsed, and I suspect that it won't, as I'm due to finish on Friday.
I've been temping before, but never been treated like this before!

perhaps you should seek legal info, as this sounds like discrimination to me

AuntieMeemz · 30/01/2008 19:07

hmm i think it was a bit of discrim too.

seems really unfair auntie - look for another job. Once the other person has been in the job you wanted for a while perhaps the regional manager will realise how good you where.
