To think I will be ill continuously until my youngest is an adult?

I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and I know it's common for them to pick up every bug going but bugger me it is constant!!!!

I am currently recovering from my 3rd stomach bug in 6 months!!!! My DD2 has had 2 bugs this year that have been that bad she's ended up with croup which resulted in me having to call an ambulance and also a chest infection later in the year which resulted in me having to take her to a&e out of hours.

Please can someone tell me this is normal and will end one day. I am a relatively healthy young adult, I am average weight and eat a healthy diet and take my vitamins. I just feel like the last year of these constant bugs has turned me so anxious and making me question every symptom either me or one of my girls get. I found that in 2020 when my dd1 was 2 things weren't so bad but obviously that was because we were all locked away and that definitely isn't the answer. I just wonder if things are worse now bug and virus wise because we were locked away or whether it would have been this brutal anyway? Any Mums that have been there done that able to give me some hope that we won't all be ill forever? Sad

My children are grown now but yes I had everything going until 18 months, then at 3 when starting preschool, then at 5 when starting school. Seemed to improve around 6.5 years.

That doesn’t sound normal in my experience, I have 3dc ages 8, 5 & 14 months, all in school and crèche. I’ve caught a stomach bug from them once in the last year, they had two vomiting bugs in that time. We all caught a cold last week, but that’s it.

RainbowCrayons · 16/11/2022 14:09

Yep, I'm in the same boat, DS has hand foot mouth and I have had a sore throat for a couple of weeks. I think because kids got less exposure to bugs in lockdown it's hitting even harder now.

Sorry, but Im afraid so. I've got a five year old and I have been constantly sick since June. She seems fine after few days, I'm dying for weeks.

As if being a parent isn't hard enough they then throw every bug going onto us and we seem to struggle 10 times more than they do 🤯

It's normal for young children to get one thing after another but not normal for adults to. I rarely catch things from my children. Are you a bit rundown maybe?

LASandOtto · 16/11/2022 18:03

We have DD born during lockdown in 2020 who caught every possible bug once she started nursery. Some stuff we ended up getting as well - Covid was one, but also one vomiting bug. We have now just welcomed DS 8 weeks ago and already been in hospital twice with him as he caught RSV and then another infection.

Im guessing our immune systems are also still somewhat compromised from lockdowns where we had no exposure to things like the common cold for a while.

We're trying to eat as healthy as possible, taking vitamins, the kids are taking their vitamins and probiotics as well... let's hope the winter isn't too bad! 😓

For me it is one of the worst parts of being a parent! Mine are now 13 and 10 and I do also work in a school, but one or other of us catches some grim virus quite often…. Obviously it’s always worse in winter time… I feel your pain! It’s unfortunately par for the course as a parent…. Just enjoy, notice and make the most of the times you are well and healthy!
