Would you take a chance and book?

Holiday available in the UK in a Ely country hotel on Jan 2. The price is excellent but there are no refunds if you can't go.
Could be snowy on the day or while you are there and it could be difficult to get home. Country lanes etc. Probably not gritting.
Would you take a chance and book or wait.
What's the likelihood of snow on or around Jan 2 next year lol?
What would you do.

Omg id just book it! Its Ely, not northern Scandinavia. The chance of snow so heavy that you can't travel is remote. Plus, if you WERE to get snowed in to a country hotel for an extra night, isnt that just a bonus?!

AnApparitionQuipped · 16/11/2022 12:19

How long is the holiday for? - If the weather conditions were dubious on the day you were due to travel, would it still give you options of arriving a day or more later, or is it just a weekend break?

Hoppinggreen · 16/11/2022 12:21

Isn’t Ely in Cambridgeshire or somewhere?
why wouldn’t you book ?

Crunchymum · 16/11/2022 12:27

How long is it for? How much is it? (ballpark) and how will you be travelling?

Shoxfordian · 16/11/2022 12:27

Yeah if you can afford to lose the money on the off chance of a snowstorm then book it

perenniallymessy · 16/11/2022 12:34

You could always get travel insurance- it is pretty cheap for UK trips but would only cover if the official advice is to not travel (rather than you just not wanting to drive with a dusting of snow).

girlfriend44 · 16/11/2022 12:36

Sorry not Ely that's a typo. It's down country lanes though abit remote.
Snow would be a problem for everyone.

Where in the uk? Makes a bit of a difference

AnApparitionQuipped · 16/11/2022 12:40

If it's only a 4 day trip I would go with pp's suggestion and take out travel insurance - you may even be covered already if you have it as part of a bank account package.

bloodywhitecat · 16/11/2022 12:43

It depends on where in the UK really but I'd probably risk booking it.

Ha ha would all the guests who couldn't get home have to pay for another night though?

If guests can't reach a place, the hotel usually rebooks them for a similar season. So if you booked for mid Feb, outside school hols, they might offer you November or the same time next year.

Why not ring to check. Otherwise for 4 nights Uk travel insurance shouldn't be too expensive.
