Panicking - was sleeping and woke up with a dry mouth (due to autoimmune condition) so reached into bedside drawer for Biotene Dry Mouth gel ... but mistakenly picked up Germolene and put some on my tongue. Realised what I'd done and went to rinse out my mouth. Lots of blood came from my tongue as I rinsed and rinsed. It's stopped bleeding but panicking a bit now as the blood was unexpected. Germolene tube just says for External use only, nothing more.

I have no experience of this but I wouldn't have thought germolene would cause this reaction. Are you sure it's not blood from your gums? I think when they say external use they mean you don't squirt the tube down your throat and digest it.

So.. call 111? (Nhs non emergency)

how would anyone on the internet be able to make a judgement call about how much blood is coming from you / whether or not you’ve poisoned yourself (highly unlikey)

Sounds like gum disease. Germolene wouldn't cause this I don't think. If you were allergic you would already know by now I expect so wouldn't have bought it to begin with 🤷🏼‍♀️

Phenol can have an exfoliating effect. You have “burnt” the bit of soft tissues your mouth that the cream touched. Good news is that it is designed to repair itself faster than any other part of your body other than your girl bits (which are virtually the same) - it’s a design feature to help prevent infection. Don’t panic, but don’t brush your teeth around that area for a day or so. Just rinse with gentle mouth wash.
Also consider keeping that and biotene in separate rooms from now on.

Thanks, I have rinsed out my mouth many times now, and gently brushed my tongue ( after the bleeding stopped), was worried about going back to sleep .. maybe I will call 111 just to put my mind at rest.
