Childminder woes

My youngest goes to a childminder 2 days per week and nursery 2 days per week. Childminders fees are on a par with nursery, except she won't provide meals, and I provide packed lunch, nappies and our buggy. Nursery provide all meals and nappies etc.

Childminder told me tonight she is tightening her stance on illness from now until Christmas and won't accept children with a runny nose, cough, regular cold etc. AIBU to think this is talking the piss? Nursery do not have this stance but unfortunately no full time places atm. She has sent the kids home several times at the drop of a hat and has her own covid rules and expects full pay. I cannot keep letting work down when she is being ott. Arghhhh!

Use the nursery then? Ultimately it's her business, she can setbhwr own riles so if you don't like them then give notice.

I wouldn't go as far as her, I'm reasonable, but I am a bit sick if parents sending ill children to me, the 11am fever is a classic as the calpol has worn off, the rash I don't see until after the parent has left, the last night vomiting the dad casually tells you about at home time..... it is annoying. I wouldn't gk as far as runny noses and colds but I do see the frustration.

Also not understanding the relevance of cost or food?

That's ridiculous. My son would almost never go to nursery if he wasn't accepted with a cough or runny nose. It takes him several weeks to clear a cough after an illness. They only send home if he looks poorly or he has a fever. Can you join a wait list for nursery? Take what days they have and wait for others to become available? Or use a different nursery or childminder?

The relevance to nursery is they have much higher overheads than a childminder. Also as mentioned nursery do not have a full-time space atm.

I wouldn't send my kids for D&V, chickenpox, fever etc as they need to be at home and looked after but a cold is taking the piss!

Yeah she is on the waiting list thankfully, slim pickings here for nursery under 3.

Are there other nurseries that do have spaces but might be a further walk/drive? It can be frustrating having to drive out of your way but it will be much less stressful than each time you're called to collect your child because they have a runny nose.
