Selling iPhone tomorrow — techy people please help!

Posted this on another forum but as the sale is happening tomorrow I really need the help ASAP.

I have an iPhone 12 mini that I'm looking to sell. Phone initially belonged to DH.

Found a local buyer who can pay £450 that I'm meeting tomorrow evening. I used the 'Erase all Content and Settings' option but DH says that's not enough. He thinks we'd have to restore it using iTunes even though we don't have a computer.

If we don't he thinks the buyer will be able to access our data/account and that our apple account will be linked to theirs 'in the backend'. Could really use the money and his plan is to cancel the sale and for us to restore it on iTunes when our family comes over for Christmas as some of them have macs. Is this really necessary? AIBU to not cancel the sale? Surely 'erase all content and settings' is enough?

Do the 'reset to factory settings' option

VapeVamp12 · 15/11/2022 09:40

I'm pretty sure Erase All Content and Settings is enouhg. When you turn the phone on now does it just say "hello" on the screen or is it still your personalised setting?

There is info on the apple support pages about what to do if selling / handing on a phone. It goes through step by step what you need to do

TreacleTartForAll · 15/11/2022 09:48

Yes, when I turn on the phone it says hello and all my data (as far as I can see) seems to have been removed. DH insists though that if they have access to a Mac they'll be able to recover all our data? He's very insistent that he's read from somewhere that the apple support's guide is not enough.

This was the guide I followed.

I think your DH is wrong but you do need to remove the device from your appleID, and list of trusted devices (mentioned in the guide)

MrKlaw · 16/11/2022 16:41

they can't access anythign without your acount details. Do erase all content and settings and during that it'll prompt you to remove 'find my iphone'.

Once that is done and its' reset to 'hello', you can log into your appleID on the web and check 'find my' and it shouldn't be listed there anymore.

I'd do a reset from settings menu. It'll wipe it clean x

That's certainly enough to clear your settings. But make sure they pay cash, to avoid being scammed.
