Don't place any new orders!

I’m not surprised tbh. Makes sense in the economic climate.

Additionally for some time now they’ve been selling at significantly cheaper prices through alternative purchase routes (e.g. Amazon Prime Try Before you Buy, direct from Joules themselves) than either in store or on their own website. I found a coat in store on sale that I liked, about half price. It was only in one size. Went home and didn’t like the sizing. Looked online and quickly found it for almost half the price I’d paid on Amazon Prime Try Before You Buy, ordered it in different size, kept that one, returned the original to store. Think it worked out as about 30% of RRP. That’s a big loss of margin for them.

Minibea · 14/11/2022 14:53

It is a shame but not massively surprising considering they are pretty much always having a sale.

Greeneyedcats · 14/11/2022 19:38

I really want to buy a few items, so if I order it won’t arrive even I pay by PayPal?
I love Joules, most of my clothes are from them.

Motherhubbardscupboard · 14/11/2022 19:43

I placed an order yesterday 😬

ThinWomansBrain · 14/11/2022 19:51

I agree with the first reply - I bought a few things by them v cheaply in TK Maxx earlier in the year, and after that some heavily redued stuff from their own website - so presumably trying different routes to shift stock swiftly.

Yes they seem to be having sales often too

cheapertorent · 14/11/2022 19:54

Why can’t you order? Surely they will still have to fulfil it

Picklewicklepickle · 14/11/2022 20:01

Ah no I just bought a ticket to their Big Sale. That was through a ticket agent so maybe I’ll get a refund?

I love their kids clothes (but only at sale prices).

Yabfu

ColeensBoot · 14/11/2022 22:26

You can place an order, but depending on where your order is and when the stop comes on fulfilling new orders- you can have paid but will never get the items. Safest to pay by credit card. Or buy from Amazon as they probably have their own stock holding.
Such a pity.

Phew, have just received my order of Christmas presents! Wasn't sure if I was going to see them.

Penguinsaregreat · 18/11/2022 19:39

I recently went into Joules along with a few other similar shops FatFace etc. There wasn’t anything there for me. I have bought their toiletries as gifts from other places. The striped tops covered with flowers were there and it’s a no from me.
I do feel sad as another shop closes though.

ColeensBoot · 19/11/2022 09:39

Blimey bit of a bun fight going on over there.
I don't even shop there, I just knew lots of mumsnetters do, and didn't want anyone to lose their money.

Depending on who runs the administration process, it can be quite brutal. But it seems people are getting their orders delivered which is good. Feel so sorry for all the staff. Awful for them.

How are they going to do that if they have gone bust? It happens all the time, businesses go bankrupt and people lose their money.

You can get Joules through Next can't you? So that would be an option. Next will probably buy them out anyway.

TeaCupLady · 19/11/2022 09:43

Oh. Was wondering why my wellies were taking so long to arrive 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sunshineboo · 19/11/2022 09:49

I placed an order just before duo went bust a couple of years ago.

I only received a better third of it and was significantly out of pocket. I was advised to go through credit card to get money back, but I hadn't use my credit card and use my debit card via PayPal. Because all their accounts were frozen PayPal couldn't recover the money.

Then duo started it up again (presume under different ownership) and I made a few posts on their social media account about how I was still missing items from before (the thing that infuriated me as they were selling exactly the same products again) the new owners sent me some boots, not quite recovering the value of what I lost it was at least something. And they didn't really have to do anything.

I would not touch ordering with a bargepole if they are getting close to administration.

ColeensBoot · 19/11/2022 09:50

Yep it depends on what order they are closing the business. On what bills need paid and how much they try and help the humans- staff and customers.

Shops to shut
HQ to shut (read on Tue other thread they've just built a new one)
Warehouse contract to close
Stock in the warehouse to get rid of. Plus stock in the shops and what's in factories and on the sea on its way to the UK.

So it seems there are derp discounts on the website and they are still shipping website orders. Which is fantastic, as it reduces the stock, customers get their stuff and at least some folk still have jobs.

It's up to the administrators how long that goes on for. I'd estimate they have a financial target of X less stock & X revenue to hit. Then boom the website closes, warehouse stops shipping.

Sad times.

ColeensBoot · 14/11/2022 14:46

You can still place orders - I placed mine 2 days ago as they have good reductions and my order has been dispatched.

Whammyyammy · 19/11/2022 10:27

I'm not surprised, they're not competitive in this modern day market. They're products are very over priced and they clearly think they can continue as is..unfortunately they will go bust, exactly the same attitude as Debenhams
