Perimenopause at age 37?

My periods have become so light of late. Will literally just have a day of bleeding and that's it. Is this the start of menopause ?
I haven't started any birth control or finished any.

I believe iron deficiency can cause a change in periods as well as hormonal Imbalances. May be worth seeing if you can get a blood test? Do you have any other symptoms?

TheLostNights · 12/11/2022 18:42

No other symptoms so am just concerned I am heading for menopause a lot earlier than I imagined.....

I have 2 day periods OP. They changed after having my baby and then the covid vaccine .

Has anything happened health-wise?

Periods do change throughout the course of your fertile life, it's not unusual at all, and some settle down to being shorter and lighter. Don't assume it is perimenopause. If you are concerned, go to your doctor and have blood tests to rule out iron deficiency anaemia or anything else; your FSH and LH will be monitored at that time too.

Mine went like that after having DD at 40 although DM had her menopause at 32, so it's nit impossible at 37.

Have you lost a lot of weight recently though.

TheLostNights · 12/11/2022 22:23

Not lost any weight or changed anything no.

It’s far from unheard of and any good GP would be happy to see you. I was peri menopausal at 35 and fully menopausal at 37. I wish I had embraced HRT sooner.

Afterfire · 12/11/2022 22:35

I went into early menopause aged 37 due to autoimmune issues - Addisons, lupus etc but I also have pituitary issues which didn’t help. I have been on HRT since. I’m now 42.

If this is a new thing for you have some blood tests to check for other things first - prolactin levels (raised prolactin can completely stop periods), hypothyroidism, anaemia etc.

Mine were very very light after my kids, until about 3 years after the second then they are gradually going back to more normal. also 37.

Hankunamatata · 12/11/2022 22:46

That's how my periods went after being extremely heavy for years. That was my 1st indication of peri and I was around your age. Then 40 the flushes and night sweats started and joint aches. Started hrt as discovered mother finished menopause by mid 40s

bridgetreilly · 12/11/2022 23:08

It might be. But also, my perimenopause has been going on for 8 years now, so don’t get too excited.

TheLostNights · 13/11/2022 12:20

Definitely not excited, it's depressing.
