This is just a wondering thought really as yesterday I experienced a little moment in the hospital. Maybe I just give too much importance to things.
Yesterday afternoon I had to be at the hospital for a gynecology appointment. This hospital building is well known for women's only services, is next to the main building but there is a fair few separate buildings so easy to get lost abit.
I gave in my letter and the health worker in question just had a good look and told me to sit down, so far so good. There was 2 wheelchair bound ladies already in the seating area and after she collected their details for the appointments, the health worker asked the first lady if she could stand up for weighing and measuring to which the lady said no.
To the second lady the health worker told her to "sit down" while waiting to be called, (this lady was quite large, already in a wheelchair, seated and unfortunately with one of the legs amputated) the lady replied "will do" in a jokingly manner and we exchanged a few giggles.
Then all of a sudden I start hearing the health worker complain on how were she going to weight and measure these two ladies if they couldn't stand up, quite loudly. "How in the world we going to do this" " I'm already doing someone else's job" " The doctor should be already be here" and so on and so forth.
I found that abit disrespectful knowing that second lady would need quite literally the need of assistance for coming out of that wheelchair, the first lady seemed away in thought with no clue why she was there ( she was brought by ambulance as well and the drivers didn't have a clue either)
A few minutes in and a man enters the gynecology department with a letter. The health worker promptly says "I think you might be lost sir", " This is for gynecology appointments". She says this before even talking to the man or checking why he was here.
Now is it just me or this lady has bit of lack of tact for the profession she is in? That man could have been a transgender man right? I understand again NHS is under staffed but to not have a clue how to talk to patients surely doesn't put staff in a good light. Again I can just be over sensitive as well hehe
What do you all think?
