To have ‘fired’ the cleaner?

Live in an average three bed detached house in cheap part of the country.

recently had to look for a new cleaner as mine left. Wanted to go off recommendation but all the ones that were recommended to me had no availability, but said if they did it’d be £10-£12 an hour and take about 3 hours (for future reference)

Found one (although now realise she’d recommended herself…) who came to ‘price up’. She said she didn’t charge an hourly rate as she thought cleaners took the mick with this, went too slowly, had lots of breaks etc. Said she was quick but thorough and would charge flat rate of £30. Great.

the first time she did it, it took her an hour and a half. I was astounded she was that quick but went round and sure enough, she’d done the majority of what I’d asked. However, the next two times she came, she was in and out under an hour and literally hadn’t dusted anything, not even around things. I texted her nicely and asked her if she could include doing x, y and z in her cleans going forward. She replied to say she already did (she didn’t) but would carry on doing so. I thought fair enough, she knows now that I’ve clocked she’s not doing things she agreed to, and I’ve given her the opportunity of sorting it out for next time.

Next time she came - she again didn’t clean those things.

i contacted her and said thank you but services no longer required. Dh thinks I’m being mean. I said I’m not on £30 an hour and have no intention of paying a cleaner who doesn’t dust £30 an hour either.

We pay my in-law's cleaner £20 an hour. She's worth every penny. She brings shopping for them and comes to put their bins out every week for which we pay her extra. We also paid throughout COVID and we pay for holidays. Consequently if we do ask an extra favour she obliges. They are 95 and 97 and an hour away from us so it's worth it.
Why do people think they can get cleaners and nannys on the cheap??

I had a cleaner like this! She operated as a company, but it was only her.

She would for example not dust the shutters (just an example I can’t remember if this was an issue)

Me ”Can you dust the shutters next time?”
Her “I don’t have time to dust the shutters”
Me “Ok so how long do I have to pay for for you yo be able to dust the shutters?”
Her “Oh I don’t get paid by the hour, I charge for the job”
Me “So can you include dusting the shutters in the job?”
Her “no I don’t have time to do that”

@cleanerhohum just a general rambling about great cleaners who should be respected and valued for what they do. 😁

We pay 20£ pH for cleaning for elderly relative .... Cleaning... But luckily she's completely honest and is happy to do extra non cleaning tasks as and when they occur...

So on ocassion she's gone and sat with him when needing an ambulance etc

Makes so much difference to us as we are 3 hours away.

£20 an hour?

I pay £12.50. She asked for £10 but I thought that was too low, so I offered £12.50 because that is what the last one was paid.

She's excellent and does anything I ask of her, not just cleaning but decluttering, moving furniture, chopping onions .... etc
