To think the world is full of A**holes...please prove me wrong

Having one of those days where so many a**holes are making an appearance, it's really getting me down. I won't go into details as don't want to further spread the negativity.

Please can you share with me some of your experiences of amazing people doing amazing things (caring, kind, thoughtful) to help me feel better and as a reminder that not everyone is selfish, unempathic and unkind. Thanks in advance x

My DS attends a special needs school and his TA has such a wonderful relationship with him, she is like a 2nd mum whilst he is there. Although he can't tell me this, I just need to look at his face when he see her and it says it all. She is so lovely with him and I am so grateful for that, knowing he is happy and feels safe when at school. Dreading the day they are parted.

I do have to add they have many members of staff at the same school who are equally as lovely, and really care about the children.

I also agree that there are many arseholes around, but there are also many of us lovely people around too 🥰😊.

@Tiredmumno1 that's so lovely to hear. I am a TA working 1:1 supporting a child with SEN so this really brought a tear to my eye.

I work in IT for a global company.

Last week, one of our North American executive directors was in the UK for a conference and his own (non-company) tech went awry (think iPad, Kindle etc). I spent a quick half hour on the phone with him getting it sorted - I didn't mind at all, he's a really nice guy and it didn't really add anything significant onto my working day.

Today, a HUGE bunch of flowers and a bottle of fizz arrived for me at home, as well as a message sent to our entire company thanking me for my time. It's nice when people are appreciative. 😀

I went to hospital this weekend by myself. I suddenly started vomiting (wasn't expecting to), and the women in the waiting room directed me to the bucket. One sat by me patting my back and offering me tissues. Another went to find some paper towels and a glass of water. Both kept checking I was OK. Just a really small thing but much appreciated by me!

FrightfullyFreezy · 10/11/2022 16:42

My dad had a fall (he was pissed and fell out of a taxi) and broke his hip. His neighbours were really helpful and supportive as he was recovering. His mates from the pub noticed he hadn't been for a while, phoned his brother and found out where he was so they could check on him and visit him in the hospital. They might all be pissheads but they do care about each other.

Jaybird43 · 10/11/2022 16:43

No, you’re completely right. Today, a consultant at work said, nonchalantly, “I never say thank you anymore. I only say it if I really have to”. For me, it’s a default as I always show appreciation to
others. She’s a rude woman anyway!

I accidentally left my purse on the cistern in the toilets at the supermarket a while ago and when I realised and returned, it had gone. In the supermarket though, they were calling my name over the tannoy: a couple had found it and handed it in and I was so grateful. They looked like the roughest trouble causers ever but they were really kind.

Lil50 · 10/11/2022 16:53

There are some wonderful people in this world all the way down to people like Putin. Worth reminding ourselves we all have the capacity to be A-holes!

FrightfullyFreezy · 10/11/2022 16:54

Finally, and this is going to be me blowing my own trumpet now, but I'm a supply teacher and before the summer holidays, when we had that awful heatwave, some of the children in the class I was working in had not brought in any water and the school had run out of bottled water. At lunch I went to the Co-Op and bought several bottles of chilled water as well as 30 icepops and gave them out (yes, I had asked permission from the school and no, there were no allergies or issues such as diabetes etc in that class) because they were all really struggling with the heat.

My 5 year old took his pound from the tooth fairy last night into school and bought a poppy with it.

Kids a star.

mamabear715 · 10/11/2022 16:55

Most people are lovely. :-)
I greet them with a smile & it's not many who don't return it.
Wishing you a much better day tomorrow, @Itsbeenabadday

My daughter reached out to another girl in her class today who she knows but isn't particularly friendly with. This girl was having a rough time with her friendship group & was so touched that someone had noticed she wasn't ok & was thoughtful enough to ask.
Proud of her

My lovely dad, he’s caring for my mum as she’s having a flare up of a health condition, they had the paramedics out and he’s had to get her meds sorted out as the GP and pharmacy had failed to sort that out, he’s not in the greatest health either. I sent a message saying I could pop over to help with shopping or housework stuff but he replied saying he’s fine and offering to do my ironing (I loath ironing with a passion)! He’s always had a kind heart.

Actually a couple this week! DH and DS5 went swimming last night turns out DH dropped his joggers on the way to the lockers with his keys/cards etc in. Didn't notice until after swimming walked out to fine someone had found them and put them on top of the lockers with everything intact.

Friend went out to a fireworks display came home later than planned with her DS7 in a taxi. Chatted to the driver all the way next day DS7 couldn't find his beloved Marvel figures. Turns out he left them in the taxi- quite valuable as well. Taxi driver didn't have her address went to fireworks pick up point at a rugby club and left them with the club for her to pick up! How lovely.

We had DS5's first birthday class party many CFs turned up with siblings and a few were "snuck in" for the food/soft play. DH said not to worry quietly to me as I was panicking about costs. DH said it might be the only hot meal some kids get - staff overheard us and at the end of the party refused to charge for the extras ❤️. They agreed with DH.

A man and woman are working in my yard right now to rake/blow all the leaves. She arranged everything. She is a retired US marine and is working for free. We will pay him the rate for 2 people. She does this so he can have pocket money as he has some disabilities that make it difficult for him to work in a regular job.

She does this for a number of people in similar circumstances. It’s just an act of kindness; no benefit to her.

I've just started doing the window dressing in a local charity shop. I love doing it, it's my creative side being allowed out and something a bit physical after sitting at a desk all day.

The manager is so chuffed to have me (lovely lady), thanks me all the time, but really, I'm thanking her for the opportunity to be me.

Aww! I walked past our charity shop this and and thought to myself how wonderful the display looked and how skilful the person arranging it was.

You do a wonderful job @Mabelface , dunno if you do our local shop, but for you to take the time and care to do it, I wanted to say how it will be noticed :)

On the tube the other day witnessed 3 entirely seperate incidents of kindness in one journey. As I was entering via the stairs down, (no escalator or lift to surface) a youngish lad ran past me carrying a massive suitcase, dumps it at the top then rushes down to get the next one up for a lady at the bottom. He was so quick! He then waits at the top with them till she gets to the surface.
Secondly, a woman gets on at a Green Park with a dog, it's horrendously crowded but a bloke sitting in the priority seat leaps up to let her take his place so dog can sit on her lap. Lastly, when I get off at my destination there's a flower stall at the exit and I stop to get some hydrangea stems for my DD. They're really pricey but a cheer up for my DD who was so sad that day. The florist comments on them and I say they're for my DD 'cos someone just broke her heart - and she let's me have an extra stem, and some foliage and wraps it all fancy for free.
