I work in quite a creative industry, the team I work in is quite small with a different skill set to the rest of the business. We are quite senior, work very hard and are proactive. We basically get stuff done.
We got a new line manager a few months back and they are totally bureaucratic. Everything is put into a project management system, every step is broken down into micro steps and there are meeting, meetings and more meetings everyday.
It's getting to the point where there is no time to get any work done.
Trouble is SLT seem to love new line manager, who is always dropping in on them for a chat and making it clear they're in with the SLT gang.
So AIBU and new line manager is just getting us creatives organised and I should go with the flow or should I risk escalating it to SLT?

If the number of meetings is stopping you being able to complete work on time and spend time actually doing your job, you can definitely raise that with your line manager / SLT.

I think not liking their style (breaking things down etc) isn't always the best for a working relationship - however there could be a reason for this? Being creative and just getting stuff done sounds great, but business continuity often relies on instructions / systems / step by step breakdowns in the case of emergency or team breakdown / illness.

It can definitely be hard when a new manager comes in and rocks the boat, but it's always worth raising if your job is being negatively impacted vs just not liking their style.

We're you as a team of senior creatives reporting adequately to SLT? It sounds like there was something lacking in terms of the visibility of your work and progress to SLT if this new manager/approach has been so warmly received. You need to understand what it is that the new manager has brought that is so popular so that the conversation around dialling it back still assesses whatever it is that the new person has brought to the business.

Thank you both. I think I've got a bit wound up and probably need to step back and look at the big picture. Maybe it's just change that I don't like.
I'll try harder to understand the processes.
