Hope that works better. Just click on the link and find if your trust voted to strike or not.

Apologies for the wall of text in previous thread.

@BananaSpanner
It's been widely publicised by nurses and union leaders exactly what will happen during the strikes.
Emergency care will NOT be affected. It will be clinics operating lists that will be affected.
I have been in the NHS for over 30 yrs and this has been a long time coming. It is not just a strike for a wage that reflects our skills knowledge and workload. It is so much more than that.

You sound casual about the massive effect that could have on some peoples lives. I get what the motivation is but the delight is unpalatable.

blackheartsgirl · 10/11/2022 03:19

Just hope my mums cancer operation isn’t cancelled or delayed then.

I get why you’re striking. I do. but let’s remember that peoples lives will be affected and many people will most probably die due to thier ops and appointments etc being delayed. I’ve already lost my dh to cancer due to covid delays, now I could potentially lose my mum too.

please. Let’s have less of the glee. NHS is in a shocking state and if a strike is what it takes then i accept that and good luck but please just have a little respect for the patients and families that this will affect.

MajorHoulihan · 10/11/2022 03:23

Quite surprised to find my trust on the list. Especially as it employs so many nurses from the Philippines who I doubt would have voted to strike. Their visa conditions mean most of the newer arrivals surely can't.
I'm not in a union so wouldn't expect to join in. I won't be happy if I am redeployed to work on wards. Though I think my area - not theatres but allied similar work, would be unlikely to join. I don't really know the hospital wide implications.

My trust was 12 votes short of 50%. So can't take action.

Of the votes cast it was a 10:1 ratio in favour of strike.

How do you find out the voting numbers/ratios?

How do you find out the voting numbers/ratios?

RCN has sent an email including stats specific only to the trust that employs you, detailing the number of members eligible to vote, number of members that actually voted, how many voted yes, how many voted against.

@blackheartsgirl no one is gleeful.. and more people will die when nurses, all quit to work in Aldi.

I am very relieved to see my Trust on the list and will be out on the picket line with everybody involved. This is a very long time coming. The sad reality is, as is demonstrated in @blackheartsgirl post, people do not see the extent of the problem here, and should be targeting the Government with the lines of "won't somebody think about the patients". "Gleeful" and "casual" are words to try and evoke guilt - take it to the Government people.

The first response to the OP was someone expressing “delight”, if that evokes guilt when it is pointed out then so be it.

The public get why you are doing it but those that will be acutely and negatively affected are hardly going to thank you for it are they.

Everbody always thinks they are in the right for their own protest.

blackheartsgirl · 10/11/2022 09:06

Oh I am very angry at the government at allowing this to happen, they are at fault no doubt about it.

and like I said I totally understand why you are striking and good luck.

im just pointing out that in real terms families lives will be impacted and destroyed and although striking is inevitable it doesn’t mean that you can’t acknowledge the impact and devastation to individual families.

yes I blame the government not the nursing profession for this situation. It still doesn’t stop me feeling upset on a personal level

onepieceoflollipop · 10/11/2022 09:13

My Trust was just below the 50% turnout which disappoints me.

Those of you criticising nurses who might be letting their patients down. You do realise that we also use the same system (NHS) for treatment? we are both patients and employees.

Every day patients moan to me that they can’t access the GP - I’ve now started to politely shut that line of talk down. I say that yep I know I don’t have some magical fast pass to the surgery either…

I do realise that and I’d be interested to know if those that would be significantly detrimentally impacted as a result of the strike action (to themselves or a loved one) have voted for it.

I am supportive of industrial action in most cases but I believe that certain professions should not be able to strike. Those where it is not mere inconvenience caused to the public and cost to the economy but actual harm to individuals. I work in one such profession and we have been shafted by the government previously but we are not able to strike and I am glad.

GreyhairedHobbit · 10/11/2022 09:41

I am very unhappy that nurses have chosen to strike. As a retired nurse I could never have contemplated such action. It seems that that the job that I did for over 25 years is not the caring vocation that it once was.

Jarofhoney · 10/11/2022 09:42

I agree with you @BananaSpanner

I don't think all professions should be allowed to strike, but I know the NHS and nurses are on their knees.

However, people will die before they're able to be seen because of operation waiting lists etc if nurses strike.

I'm angry the government has let it get to this point.

I'm sorry about the loss of your DH ❤️

FixundFoxi · 10/11/2022 09:57

@BananaSpanner I'm a nurse of 30 odd years and also a patient whose outpatient appointment has been cancelled 6 times. Probably as a direct result of staff shortages and indirectly underinvestment. And yes I voted for it.

FixundFoxi · 10/11/2022 10:02

Re the 50% turnout in many trusts it would be interesting to see a breakdown of how the different grades voted. Mainly junior staff or a mixture.

Thedogscollar · 10/11/2022 10:02

The delight is unpalatable.
You could not be more wrong.

Caring doesn't pay the bills. And yes, the profession has changed since you retired. You are part of the problem.

Dotjones · 10/11/2022 10:42

Yep, the scumbags are striking. I've got no time for strikers, especially ones with secure jobs. Everyone is struggling at the moment.

Grow the hell up. You are ignorant of all the facts.

@Dotjones grow up
