Is anyone else feeling utterly pissed off by all the shit going on in the world right now? And in the UK? For example, in no particular order:

  • Never ending strikes, Railway, nurses, postal workers, university lecturers
  • Just Stop Oil stopping people getting to work, to hospital appointments, to funerals and anywhere else
  • ridiculous gas and electricity costs, increasing interest rates and mortgage rates
  • Inflation at stupid %
  • COP being a waste of time (says Greta, so I expect she has a point)
  • War in Ukraine
  • Many politicians being corrupt, dishonest abusers, ditto many police
  • House price crash and UK recession on the way

I haven't felt this fed up since Brexit and then Covid. Anyone else?
What can we all do? Suggestions welcome.

YANBU: You're right, it's a shitshow and I'm fed up with it too
YABU: What's the problem, this is just normal and how it is

Yabu but not because this is normal. It isn't. But you are ignoring all the good things in your world, and you are worrying about things that haven't happened yet.

I suggest you stop watching the news because it all ramped-up gloom.

Today I have seen a beautiful sunrise, I've watched a flock of redwings stripping the berries off my holly tree. I've been for a run in autumn sunshine. I've had a successful day at work. When I set those things against the fact that diesel is up again and I have to go to town tomorrow when there is a tube strike, it sets everything In better balance. 🙂

YABU, Focus on what's going right, so turn off news.
Being miserable is only going to affect you, nobody else cares if your miserable or not, so you aren't achieving anything.
Every single day positive things are still happening, l just watched a video 're some people working together to save a baby orca whale, that had got beached. I don't follow the news l follow nature and all of its natural rhythms. I am at peace with life and with myself, it's the best way to live.

I know it depends on our circumstances but eating more vegetarian is a good move plus cutting down on car use. Good for health.

Some changes I have had to make I don't even miss.

Using some cheaper items of skincare has been a revelation and cutting out subscriptions etc has done me no harm.

The cost of gas and electric is a bit worrying though.

I'm in my seventies and the UK and world have had countless crises in my lifetime. There were plenty in my parents' generation too, and before.

There is nothing new under the sun.

We'll get through and all will be well again, at least for a while.

I know what you mean (you are right), but try to focus on what you can do to make life better. I’ve often read that when life is all doom and gloom remind yourself of your values and beliefs (perhaps write them down), and check that you are staying true to those. You will get satisfaction from that.

YANBU though!

Well we have been getting poorer for some time & now we will be even more poorer still. Public services are close to breaking point & we have a major issue with demographic changes of an ageing population but it's ok apparently because some people are starving & homeless.

I like this and agree

I’m not noticing the gloom anymore and try to turn all radio news off

UnstableCarHouse · 09/11/2022 17:25

‘Twas ever thus.

There’s a lot of bad stuff going on but plenty of good stuff too. It just doesn’t get reported.

'In Spain, thousands of health personnel, including doctors working in emergency services, were on strike in November. Besides a considerable increase in their wages, they requested more staff and more resources.

In France, health workers joined protests in several cities in June with similar demands. Doctors in Germany went on strike in March.' (From euronews)

The media encourages us to think it's only the UK experiencing problems. In America - tent cities have sprung up, populated by those who couldn't pay their mortgages because of horrible health care bills. Countries the world over are experiencing difficulties. And the media only focuses on bad news....
