As an employer, would this bother you?

When asking previous employers for sickness over the last two years employed by them. Employer from 2017-2021 will be 0 days for the last two years. Current employer will be 6 weeks with investigations for potential heart issues (have cardiology letters) - all finished and am now on beta blockers and had no issues since, 2 days with covid, and 3 days with a virus. All genuine. Would this be an issue for you? WIBU for them to not give me the job because of this?

My company would definitely not provide that information at all.

We would stay 'XYZ worked for us as xyz Role between date and date'.

I mean, are they even allowed to tell them the reason for any absences? Surely that would be a breach of confidentiality, giving out medical info...

I was worried this would be an issue for me after taking large amounts of time off for cancer treatment but new employer didn't even ask for sickness days.

So was you hospitalised?

So was you hospitalised?

No but was in A&E initially and spent a lot of time in hospital having various different ecgs

I am struggling to understand how you would have 5 weeks off with investigations? Glad you are feeling better.

Well I haven't told you any of my symptoms so would be hard for you to make a judgement?

I thought you said “investigations for potential heart issues”? Not judging, just trying to get a clearer picture.

Sounds like a very invasive request for a reference to be honest.

Your absences don’t sound like anything too concerning, but the 56 days bit does sound a bit off putting, especially if they have a candidate with say only 5 (as long as they aren’t all individual days like a Monday), but it sounds like you have secured the role now. So unless it’s something where your health will be scrutinised like if you need a medical I wouldn’t worry.
