Matt Hancock getting paid for two jobs

MrsDoyle351 · 08/11/2022 06:09

The former health secretary will be a late addition to the ITV show, which returns to Australia this year and will star Euro 2022 winner Jill Scott, ex-rugby star Mike Tindall and singer Boy George, among others.

The Tory chief whip said Mr Hancock's participation on the show while Parliament was sitting was "serious enough" to warrant suspension.

When MPs have the whip suspended, they are kicked out of the party within Parliament, but remain an MP and continue to be paid.

Okay I know this is being discussed ad infinitum but really WTAF??? What's the point of suspending him when he's still getting paid FFS.

I'm sure my boss would be delighted and allow me to take a few weeks off - when supposed to be working - and get paid somewhere else. Erm no - apparently that's called fraud when I do it.

Sick to death of one rule for them and one rule for us. Utter cunts.

@User98866 Shock That's terrible. You really couldn't even make this stuff up it's so bad!

@BonesOfWhatYouBelieve Precisely that - I was also incredulous and fuming that Johnson was off on his hols whilst Parliament was sitting during the biggest shitshow ever with the Trussonomics shenannigans.

I get paid for two jobs.

I can even take time off from one and get paid for it while working the other one.

There are much more important political issues to get worried up about imo.

I think it’s pretty important that a current sitting MP, a person paid to represent his constituents, has fucked off to take part in a reality TV show and no it doesn’t matter that he’s not your MP. I’m sick of ‘no big deal’ responses. Most people expect nothing of their representatives these days. There are no standards any more and those of us who would quite like there to be some have to suck it up.

BananaFluff · 08/11/2022 08:10

There's nothing wrong with having two jobs as long as you follow workplace policy. I don't like the man though

Shinyandnew1 · 08/11/2022 08:21

I can’t get paid time off work to attend a family funeral! Still it’s one rule for them…

If he’s suspended pending an investigation, what exactly is the investigation and when? It’s nothing like opening a fete to the op who suggested this! That takes an hour/afternoon max and it would be mixing with your constituents in your consistency!

I hope he isn't voted to do any trials and that someone decent actually gets the limelight rather than this self serving smug twat.

I hope he is completely ignored and the first person booted out!

Please don't vote for him to do the trials!

I'm not saying it's not at all important.

But the entire party is flailing about, going from leader to leader, going from one patently bad decision to another. Backtracking and apologising. The entire party is not fit for purpose.

The country would probably be better off if the whole lot of them fucked off to the jungle to be honest.

So no, I can't get worried up about one tory mp doing something like this. In fact, maybe it's to be encouraged. The more people get pissed at the way they are behaving, the more chance we have of them being bored out.

Voted out*

Ha yes! If we could all just ignore that he's there that would be great!

Loads of people have been made to do the majority of the trials and the "limelight" did them no favours. Gillian McKeith??

I want him to do all the trials and get voted out about halfway. Don't forget when they're voted out early they get to spend the longest time in the plush hotel and still get their fee.

MyLovelyPen · 08/11/2022 08:44

The fact that so many people think you’re getting worked up about nothing is the reason we’re in this mess in the first place I’m afraid. Johnson was elected PM because voters thought “he was a bit of a laugh”. They say the people get the government they deserve . . . “ 😢

the80sweregreat · 08/11/2022 09:10

Politicians have done this before , but it rankles that he is only doing it to hi light dyslexia and his new book but when you hear today many educational places are having to lay off TAs who can help children with SEN , it feels wrong
I hope he gives all his fees to charity , but I bet it's only a percentage and the rest goes elsewhere

user1471457751 · 08/11/2022 09:30

Do you feel the same about all the other MPs with second jobs? A lot of them across all parties (tory, Labour, lib dem, SNP and more) work second jobs while being MPs. It could be argued that this approach is better - a couple of weeks focused on the other job then back to normal- rather than weekly work.

Not that I think it's OK but it's definitely nothing new.

bakehimawaytoys · 08/11/2022 09:33

He shouldn't be getting paid for any jobs, he should be in prison. He is a corrupt, self-interested, incompetent fool who was responsible for thousands of deaths by allowing Covid into care homes. I have no interest in watching him on TV and am furious that he's being given this platform. Shame on him.

Snnowflake · 08/11/2022 09:49

Where is he MP for?

Maybe we could arrange some rioting in the streets so that the next days headlines are civic unrest whilst local MP suns himself on tropical Island .......

I’m with you OP. This must surely be the shortest investigation in the history of investigations. Cut and dried case!

Me too.
