to think that a charity would be grateful for me trying to donate good quality furniture to them?

Have been trying to donate it today - what a palaver!Think they would want it but it just seems too much hassle for them. Am tempted to just take it to the tip.....

join freecycle. You can put unwanted stuff on there and someone will come and get it.

I think furniture is a hassle for charity shops because it's difficult to store. Have you looked to see if there is a salvation Army shop as they sometimes do more furniture stuff. Or your local council may run a scheme where they pick up furniture and donate it to someone needy.

In answer - yes I think it is a bit unreasonable as there are many other ways to recycle/pass on things like furniture.

We have had this with the sofa project. They came round to look at an ancient wardrobe of ours (which was in perfectly good nick, and v roomy) and they said "Oh we only want pine" so I freecycled it

ChirpyGirl · 29/01/2008 22:20

Have you tried here?
I am going to call them tomorrow about a sofa I have that no-one wants on freecycle as I won't deliver it (cheeky bastards)

I have tried everything I cna think of to get rid of this as I can't get it to the tip, it wouldn't fit in my car, so beaniesteve, please tell me how else I can get rid??

No charity wanted to come get the couch our landlords have in the back room, but I'm pretty pleased because we don't have one, so when we leave it's coming with us!

Their loss is our gain!

When we moved a charity came to collect stuff - they quite happily took a very old electric oven but refused to take a sofa and armchair that were only 3 years old, saying they were too old. They were in fine condition. We ended up leaving them in the flat and never heard a thing about it from the housing association!

But to boost Freecycle up - we got a lovely leather armchair today
Have you tried efreeko.co.uk - it's a long shot but you never know.

Great link chirpygirl. I have checked and there is a place about 5 miles from us who I going to contact tomorrow. I have been hanging onto some bedroom furniture for years because it is good quality but needs a bit of renovation and no one wants it. This organisation has a renovation workshop so hopefully they will consider having it.
