Awaiting results of cancer fast track referral

Hi All
Posting here for traffic, but still interested to know if others think I am being reasonable or not
Some time ago, I was referred by GP for fast track two week cancer investigation
Everything went like clockwork and I was seen and had operation within the 2 week timeframe.
I was delighted!
Only snag is that after some considerable time I am still awaiting results. I have phoned, and was told the Consultant had not reviewed my results but would be told I had called. After waiting several weeks, I phoned again and got the same response. I waited some more time and spoke with Patient Liaison who also gave the same response.
I have spoken to my GP who referred me, they have said there is nothing they can do as it is up to the Consultant to review
It has now been some time, and still no results. Am I unreasonable to feel somewhat fed up?
Don’t want to specify length of time to avoid any journalistic involvement.
Name changed as don’t want friends who know my username to know.
Thanks

Have you thought about madeva complaint OP

Notagain12 · 07/11/2022 21:19

Write to PALS .. they have to take it seriously.

Waitymatey · 07/11/2022 21:19

I decided against that, in case I needed further treatment and didn’t want to annoy them

Not good enough.. Would PALS help at all as you push for a response?

Waitymatey · 07/11/2022 21:21

Sorry, PALs Was the Patient Liasion people I spoke too, they were brilliant and got straight onto it and gave me the same reply

Crossed with @Notagain12 but there’s no limit to how many times you seek help from PALS.

BHRK · 07/11/2022 21:21

Don’t worry about annoying them, this isn’t good enough. I would write to PALS but also suggest you’re thinking of starting a complaint. It will speed them up, honestly

Thanks everyone- I was expecting to be told how pressurised the NHS was and I was being unreasonable- just shows the impact being ignored repeatedly can have

Good point, I could go back to PALs- but it seems this consultant just ignores any request as this will now be the fourth time I will have asked for my results

I was worried about annoying the consultant by making a complaint - though, given his lack of communication I may already have done that by requesting my results

I am even considering a subject access request- at least if I get my results I can ask my GP to look at them

you could try contacting the consultant s secretary if you haven't already tried this? call the hospital and as to be out through to him or her?
I had a similar experience with post menopausal bleeding the actions were swift but the results took ages. Biopsy results weren't available due to a back log so they were unable to give me the entire picture.
Good luck it's very stressful

When you say, you had the operation, do you mean a test, or ( which I thought) the curative procedure. Obviously the two things are very different.

IF you are waiting for the results of a test which will determine future treatment, it’s unacceptable. If you have had your treatment ( would it be a mole removal?) and you are not expecting further intervention…..maybe the consultant is prioritising treating people.

you could try calling the specialist nurse, they are usually very up to speed on what’s going on. I hope you are recovered.

I think this depends on too many factors for us to know if you are being unreasonable (are we talking a few days or a few weeks or months?!; what sort of procedure did you have/ type of cancer and seriousness etc) but its understandable for you to be worried.

Hello Everyone
very many thanks for all your support and suggestions
I have been waiting some time, not just a few weeks
I was waiting for lab results to determine future treatment
And yes, starting to get very stressed
I went back to my GP (had been before and told to contact hospital)and explained to the Receptionist I would like to make a Subject Access Request for all my records.
She seemed a bit taken aback, explained I could not have immediate access, etc.
I explained this was all fine, as at least I would have access to the results
Receptionist said she would ask GP to phone me.
He did, no signs of cancer.
Thank you for all your support and suggestions- when I felt so low last night it was amazing to reach out and find there were people there who cared enough to reach back to me, thank you all xxx
