My husband literally never ever surprises me with anything.

He never uses initiative with gifts and I always have to choose my own things. For Christmas I said I'd love theatre tickets and sent three shows I'd like to see by text. I know the dates of these shows as one was v soon after Christmas one was on my birthday and the other was the month after. I know this as I looked for the shows myself!

I just said "I know you've booked a show, it's not on xyz date is it so I can make plans with my friend?"

He said no and told me the exact show date and now I am back to not having a surprise and I feel so disappointed!

@bwstri i alway give my partner a few ideas of things I would like but I alway say to surprise me too. Just tell him you want a surprise.

Ahhh OP, I might be a bit miffed I’d lost the surprise of which show it was, and if you were asking me that question I would have thought to just say ‘no it’s not on that date’ I reckon. I do think there’s a fair chance my OH might have done the same as yours though so I might have specified that he wasn’t to give anything away. Hope it’s a show you’ll enjoy, anyway!

I'd put it down to miscommunication.

It sounds like an automatic response.
