Please tell me AIBU to eat unopened stilton 2+ weeks past it's use-by date??

Nope

JudgementalCentipede · 07/11/2022 18:25

Personally I would, it's quite obvious when stilton is past it's best as it goes brown and slimy.

dementedpixie · 07/11/2022 18:26

Might only just be ripe tbh

LakieLady · 07/11/2022 18:27

I would, but I have cast-iron guts and play fast and loose with sell-by dates. If it smells ok and looks ok, I'll eat stuff regardless of what the date says.

I've only ever had two stomach upsets, norovirus and campylobacter that I got from having lunch at a pub that had a filthy kitchen and came within a gnat's cock of being closed down by environmental health.

nocoolnamesleft · 07/11/2022 18:29

YABU to eat stilton at all (hate blue cheeses). But the date stamp wouldn't worry me.

Shouldawouldacoulda30 · 07/11/2022 18:31

It will be fine!

pastabakeonaplate · 07/11/2022 18:31

It's mouldy anyway

ComtesseDeSpair · 07/11/2022 18:33

I’ve always assumed that cheese is milk’s attempt at immortality in the first place? If it’s been ageing in a cave for 18 months as the pack I bought last week claims to have been doing, what difference is a fortnight in my fridge going to make? Presumably it might just dry out a bit once unsealed and be less palatable.

Blossomtoes · 07/11/2022 18:38

It’s fine. Use your eyes and nose and ignore the date.

Oysterbabe · 07/11/2022 18:41

I'd eat it.

Obia · 07/11/2022 18:41

I thought this was going to be a baby naming thread 😂

I'm relieved it's actually about the cheese.

Longdarkcloud · 07/11/2022 18:44

As long as it’s not slimy and tastes ok I would eat it and enjoy it

OrangePomander · 07/11/2022 18:45

If you don’t want it I can dispose of it for you…

ghostsandpumpkinsalready · 07/11/2022 18:45

I couldn't stomach it even if it had a month left before its use by date 🤣so it's a no from me 🤮

DarkAndDusty · 07/11/2022 18:46

I'm going for it Smile

OP posts:
TheVelvetOnion · 07/11/2022 18:46

I'd definitely try it if it hadn't been opened Smile yum!

ThatshallotBaby · 07/11/2022 18:47

Definitely yes

Mum2jenny · 07/11/2022 18:47

I’d eat it

Stilton is a boy's name. It's Gorgonzola for a girl.

😄Well, there’s Brie Larson.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/11/2022 18:52

Absolutely yes

Like others I would use my eyes and nose rather than the date.

Stilton is cooked so far less likely to be a problem than other blue cheeses.

Love Stilton to the point of almost being offended that some don’t like it!

Topseyt123 · 07/11/2022 18:53

I would. If it hasn't gone all squishy and/or the pack hasn't blown then it will almost certainly be fine.

Blue veined cheeses contain a mould anyway, and have been matured for ages.

I like stilton. I also like Saint Agur, and do currently have a wedge of that in the fridge.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/11/2022 18:54

I've just had some Wensleydale. Now, there's a cheese.
