Is £1350 a reasonable price for a half term school ski trip

Name changed for this one for obvious reasons.

Inspired by another thread on what is needed for a school ski trip, I would like to ask how much people are being charged.

School is organising a ski trip in half term to one of the bigger French ski resorts. But not a super expensive one like Val d'isere. 6 nights accommodation and 5 days skiing.

£1350 includes flights, coach to/from airport, what looks like an OK in resort hotel, 4 h lessons per day, lift pass, full board, equipment hire, insurance.

The only thing they need cash for is snacks.

Is this good value for this holiday specification?

Yes I think it sounds about right. My parents paid about that 15 years ago for me to do the same thing but America.

So factoring in that this is Europe and inflation probably about right.

Whether it’s good value and worth paying though also depends on if you can afford it!

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 07/11/2022 13:58

Similar to what we're paying in Italy (actually just under) but I think they get 5 hours of tuition per day. And they're going by coach, not flying.

DD went 3 years ago in her previous school and it came in at under £1000 all in, with flights and a nicer destination. Hard to say how much is down to inflation and how much is the school just not negotiating the best deal tbh!

That sounds ok to me, my ds is going to Iceland in feb with the school , that is only 4 nights, no skiing and it is £1400

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 07/11/2022 14:02

That’s the ball park figure for a school ski trip. I work in a private school and send these messages out and my dds school ski trip is a similar price.

PatriciaHolm · 07/11/2022 14:03

that's what we are paying for a half term trip, yes - though ours is coach travel, but 6 days skiing.

BagOfBollocks · 07/11/2022 14:03

That does sound about average.

pewtypie · 07/11/2022 14:04

Sounds about right.

greenacrylicpaint · 07/11/2022 14:06

sounds about right. we are quoted about the same for coach only & hostel/dorm accomodation for 9 nights (friday-sunday).

ski & equipment hire and ski lessons included.

LBFseBrom · 07/11/2022 14:07

It does sound right.

Appleblum · 07/11/2022 14:09

It's good value. You'd pay much more going on your own.

Yes in half term week i think this is very true

Yep, it's about right, if your kid needs ski kit get onto Vinted. I've just sold all of mine that doesn't fit anymore in a matter of hours so there's obviously a lot of demand!

reigatecastle · 07/11/2022 14:35

I wonder if the school concerned is moaning about funds and/or putting its fees up because of energy bills.

I wonder if it has made any connection between energy consumption and climate change.

And why therefore it would even consider running a ski trip, which is one of the most damaging activities you can do.

Yes it costs too much, but not (only) in the way you are asking.

Y7drama · 07/11/2022 14:44

Sounds about right, especially for flying not coach.

pastabakeonaplate · 07/11/2022 14:46

Yes

PortalooSunset · 07/11/2022 14:51

Sounds a similar price to dc1's school a few years ago but theirs was by coach so you're getting a good deal!
It's way out of what I'd usually budget for school trips, and in our case there's no way it could be an annual thing, but I'd do it for a one off somehow!

sprinkledcream · 07/11/2022 14:53

I did a similar school trip around 15 years ago to Austria and it was £1300 then, February half term so I think it's reasonable

Youdoyoubabe · 07/11/2022 14:54

Very good value!!

CombatBarbie · 07/11/2022 15:34

I paid £800 4yrs ago and they went via coach so prob sounds about right.

My son went on a similar trip in Italy in April from Ireland (same days over night and skiing lesson) and we paid just €1190 which is around which is just over £1000 I think
