To think you don't brush your dirty hair.....

...by the fridges in the supermarket.

Woman today, well dressed, hairbrush out and brushing her long hair which looked like it hadn't been washed in a while.

And in case it matters, it was Sainsburys.

OP posts:

I don't think I would even register this.

The food in supermarket fridges is all in packets. It's not like her hair is in your food.

Coz obviously it's perfectly normal to brush your hair in the fridge section of the supermarket 🙄

Well supermarkets are a public space. Anyone can go into them. People with all different levels of personal hygiene are walking around supermarkets. People who've just been exercising, people who have poor hygiene, people who might just have been handling animals, kids with snotty noses and mucky hands, etc etc... they are all walking around and touching stuff.

This is one reason that food is packaged. Honestly not something I could get worked up about.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 07/11/2022 13:35

When you've got long hair and you're having a problem with it and you're out, brushing it seems sensible. Most supermarkets are ginormous and trekking across them to the toilets because your ponytail came down is unreasonable.
What was it that bothered you about this, OP?

mamabear715 · 07/11/2022 13:37

eeewww.. well I wouldn't like it, either, @starfishmummy
Supermarkets have toilets with mirrors for that.

WYDMAD · 07/11/2022 13:38

Does it matter? People pick up and put down food all the time to look at ingredients or inspect fruit and veg. How do you know they weren't just scratching their bum, or picking their nose? If the food is in a packet then it really doesn't matter. If the food is open such as fruit or veg then you wash it before you use it. You'd notice if your carrot had a hair on it. I honestly despair that someone feels it necessary to spend time typing out a post because a woman brushed her hair near some food.

RitaFires · 07/11/2022 13:40

I think brushing your hair in a supermarket is odd but I'd just give that person a wide berth and move on with my day.

Thisisnotmyname2 · 07/11/2022 13:40

Bit of a strange place to stop and brush your hair but no it definitely doesn't matter that it was sainsbury's.

Ginny1987 · 07/11/2022 13:41

I once saw a woman opening 2L bottles of tango to taste them then put them back.

now THAT was gross

fancyfrogs · 07/11/2022 13:43

Whilst I don't think I'd necessarily be grossed out by it (unless it was horrifically matted with head lice falling all over), I do think I'd probably think it was a bit odd

toastofthetown · 07/11/2022 13:44

It’s unusual but I wouldn’t be bothered by it.

PearlclutchersInc · 07/11/2022 13:45

Yuk. So many people don't behave appropriately ...I mean why would you brush your hair in a supermarket...🙄

Maybe she saw someone she really fancied in the next aisle and wanted to make sure her hair looked nice Grin

So given the choice of food packet that's been handled by someone you've just seen picking their nose and one that hasn't, you'd be indifferent ?

Cancelledtwiceover · 07/11/2022 13:50

I think if I urgently needed to brush my hair, or even just remembered I'd left the house without brushing it, I'd make my way to the toilets, or back to car to brush it. Weird to brush hair by fridges.

Were you the lady with the hairbrush? 🤔

That's not what I said though is it. I'm implying that a hair isn't going to hurt or kill anyone and moaning about someone brushing their hair on the internet is a bit precious.

Legallypinkish · 07/11/2022 13:53

It’s disgusting. I’d be appalled too. N

Nope. I'm black so have afro hair. If I brushed it out in public without a mirror I'd have to put my hood up to hide how ridiculous it looked Grin

I was recently sitting on (a very crowded) tube next to a woman with very long blonde hair who was repeatedly picking at it, pulling out loose strands of hair, and dropping them all over the floor (as well as her own legs). Absolutely gross.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 07/11/2022 13:58

My kid once widdled on the floor near the veg. A kind supermarket employee mopped it up - there are far worse things going on in the supermarket than a bit of hair brushing.

Sounds like potential trichotillomania. My sister has it. She keeps her hair in her hand though and rolls it into a ball then bins.

Me neither, I'd rather hair than coughing and sneezing everywhere which people do all the time.

There are a lot of utter lunatics around nowadays.

You are being pedantic.

Of course it's not great hygiene to brush your hair near food, or pick up some food if you've just wiped your nose on your hand, or whatever.

But given that a qualification in Food Hygiene is not requirement to enter a supermarket, what would you propose to stop it?

Shall we have supermarkets instate hygiene rules written out on the end of each aisle? Kick out people who are seen behaving in a way that is deemed to be less than 100% sterile? Hire extra 'hygiene enforcement staff'?

Come on.

We all live in a society which contains people who live differently and have different ideas about lots of things, including personal hygiene. It's life.

This is not something that we particularly have control over or should be concerned about.
