Fireworks this year?

Just wondered how the fireworks were around where you live the last three nights?

We've lived here approaching twelve years and previous years and particularly through covid they went on for hours over many nights

This weekend there was hardly any Friday, Saturday had gone quiet by 10:00pm and last night a couple at 7:30pm

Not sure if I'm imaging it, normally they go on and on for days. Maybe people cutting back, I imagine they aren't cheap

Friday... lots
Saturday... even more. It went on from dark until 11ish.
Sunday... bit less than Friday

Whinge · 07/11/2022 08:44

There's been absolutely loads where I live, and we have another official display coming up on the 12th Sad

Beezknees · 07/11/2022 08:45

I didn't hear any last night. There were a few on Saturday night but they seemed to be done pretty early.

mamabear715 · 07/11/2022 08:45

Going on & on here. Not the nice family type - they were over for 9pm on the 5th.
But the damn thuggy mortar type ones..

Legoninjago1 · 07/11/2022 08:47

Going on and on and on around here. For weeks. Drives me bonkers. Even heard some at 8:30 AM yesterday. Shit you not.

liveforsummer · 07/11/2022 08:47

Been going off from dusk til midnight since Halloween. Had major police incidents, fires lit on main roads, emergency service personnel having fireworks and petrol bombs thrown at them. Fireworks aimed at cars, busses and cyclists. Just the usual - was quieter last night

mondaytosunday · 07/11/2022 08:48

OMG it was like WWIII around here! Last week but one we had quite a few (Diwali perhaps?) and from last Thursday/Friday/Saturday it seemed non stop. We live within walking distance of three primaries and two parks. All seem to be doing something. They were quiet by 10pm though.

Eve · 07/11/2022 08:49

Hardly any here, like you OP used to go on for days.

OoooohMatron · 07/11/2022 08:50

A few but definitely not as many as previous years. Considerably less people on Facebook moaning about their dogs being scared too.

BeyondMyWits · 07/11/2022 08:50

It was wet here, there were fewer than normal. But we also had a big display at the local school on Thursday which meant people paid a few quid a family to see loads of huge fireworks rather than 20 quid for half a dozen littler ones.

I think the cost of living and environment crises will be biting too. Paying money to burn stuff for a 2 minute thrill is not making much sense when you can't heat and eat.

fedstool · 07/11/2022 08:52

Had the same amount as usual. Where are the parts of the country where they go on for weeks, every night all through the night? That would be very expensive!!

DaenerysTarragon · 07/11/2022 08:53

My friend's horse ran through a fence in panic. The neighbours spitefully decided to aim their fireworks over his field instead of away. He may not survive. She has video evidence of what we did and let's hope they end up footing the vet bill.

It's time to completely overhaul the law. Fireworks are so loud and they light up the sky like a war zone these days - the sort of fireworks we only used to see in displays. It used to be just November 5th and now it's year round with no warning. The price is too high.
We could only be thankful for having just our land around us and no near neighbours. My friend's two horses live nearly 2 hours away, but we'll be picking them up and bringing them to us next year for the high risk period. Hoping she still has two then. 😪

Hellenswall · 07/11/2022 08:54

Not many due to the rain unfortunately

littleworld187 · 07/11/2022 09:01

I was hoping everybody would say it was quieter than normal for them too!

It was quite cold and wet here at times. There's always that one person who lets a mortar off about two hours after it's all gone quiet

One woke me up

I just wish they could be silent, aren't they a visual thing?

I always think of the poor animals. Hope the horse survives

Far too many. Including until after midnight last night. My nerves are wrecked and I'm ready to pack my bags.

fedstool · 07/11/2022 09:04

I never really hear them when inside because of double glazing or perhaps there's just more background noise as i'm in London.

Choconut · 07/11/2022 09:05

There were lots going off Friday - but early, 6ish to 8ish and we did some Tesco low noise ones at home at the same time as it looked the best day weather wise. But didn't see or hear any Sat or Sunday, the weather hasn't been great though.

Teadrinkingmumofone · 07/11/2022 09:06

Hardly any where I am. There are absolutely loads normally. The local firework show seemed to have much quieter ones than normal with no excessively loud bangs.

Mylittlesandwich · 07/11/2022 09:07

We've had a few most nights since the 26th of October. Lots more this weekend. There should be less now but it'll be January before they're done completely.

whatsup00 · 07/11/2022 09:12

Same as you littleworld. I'm in the black country. Usually there's almost a full month of it. This year there were some on Friday, a lot on Saturday, and I barely heard any on Sunday. I'm not a massive fan of fireworks (although I like looking at them from a distance) but it made me sad as it's a sign of the times.

AnnieCannyFrangipani · 07/11/2022 09:14

Fewer going off than usual near me this year thankfully. Diwali was a different matter, first year I've heard that celebrated here and it sounded like a war zone. Fireworks are too loud these days, there's just no need.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/11/2022 09:22

Heaps on bonfire night, our local display wasn't running this year because of building works so I think more people had fireworks at home. Had a few yesterday.

Whatafool123 · 07/11/2022 09:23

Definitely fewer round here I think, though also near London so maybe you just don't notice as much. Significantly fewer public displays this year, although some schools have put them on. The public ones haven't really come back since Covid, but maybe they would have if it wasn't for the cost.

We had some supermarket ones at a friend's on Saturday and their neighbours on either side did too, which created quite a nice display. Again, all done fairly early though

AlwaysLatte · 07/11/2022 09:27

We haven't used ours yet, as it was raining all weekend (we barbecued the guy because the bonfire was also soaked!) we'll do ours one day this week when it's dry (they're silent ones). So maybe others will do the same when the weather improves.

JumpinJacques · 07/11/2022 09:41

On Friday and Saturday there were quite a lot from 7-9pm but then pretty quiet bar the odd 1 or 2 in the distance. Very unusual for around here, they usually go on until the early hours. Barely any last night. Though, they have been going off randomly for a couple of weeks now.
