The panic when I think I'm going to be sick

Emetophobia hand-hold.

My DS can't seem to stop coming home with stomach bugs. He isn't bothered by them and never hit hard but I catch most and I have such a horrible fear and anxiety behind throwing up.

So he was sick yesterday and now here I am, up at 3am, completely nauseous and sure that I'm going to be sick and my heart is beating really fast and I'm freaking out. Ugh.

Anyone else?

I know exactly how this feels. If it helps, I usually find the nausea paired with the panicky racing heart is always my anxiety rather than the bug having hit - our minds can be unhelpfully powerful sometimes. Can you get yourself a cold drink of water, take some slow breaths (in through your nose, out through your mouth) and watch something to distract you? Hopefully it's just the worry and not the bug. Giving you a handhold and an unmumsnetty hug Flowers

It's dreadful. However I always regret holding off so long when I am sick because the relief is incredible after being nauseous for hours.

Hand hold as strangely, I am awake feeling nauseas as well and panicking! I'm finding counting backwards from 100 really helpful as it makes me focus on that instead. Sending big hugs.

Thank you everyone.

@mrsmarmalade12 sorry to hear you're in the same position! It's just horrible, isn't it?!
I've got an assignment that I've put off doing so I've delved into that at 4am to take my mind off it!

It makes me feel crazy how well my young DS handles it while me as a fully-grown adult can't think about it with a panic.

I think we know we can put it off but eventually need to be sick. It's aweful but somehow it's inevitable so accepting it and then feeling better after is needed but so aweful. Kids just crack on with listening to their body x

I suffered for years, almost my whole life with this, it affected so much, literally felt like the world was going to end even if I saw a stranger being sick.
Reluctantly had hypnosis years ago for it, (was very sceptical, but also desperate as was pregnant with my first child.) Literally the best money I've ever spent!! Completely changed my life.

I really hope you feel better soon, I know how hideous it is.
