Neighbours are still drilling

I'm so so sick of our neighbours.

He is just the most inconsiderate twat I've ever known. He's made it clear that he doesn't like us because we rent and he owns. He parks across the parking spaces diagonally so we can't fit our car in, for 5 months from January-June he was in the garden with his friends until midnight building 4ft tall decking with a floodlight on whilst playing Ukele (yes really).

Today he started drilling and using power tools at 8am, it's still going.

Our wall is vibrating.

We've tried talking to him, we've put notes through his door but he just doesn't care.

I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant and so stressed after multiple miscarriages, I can't relax, it's so loud and draining.

What else can I do? I don't think council will care and I don't want to waste police time 😭

Make a diary. Report to council. Ring them Monday! He can't be treating you like this because you rent. You are not inferior to him coz he OWNS FFS! Hmm

Sounds like he is trying to drive you out. If he DOES make you leave, I hope he ends up next to a gang of 15 Hells Angels who party into the night til 3am 4 nights a week, and rev up their motorcycle engines for hours on end outside his lounge window, and make so much noise he can't hear his TV, and cause so much stink from the bikes that he is forced out of his garden.

Sorry about your miscarriages Flowers

Honestly at this point I’d play him at his own game. Buy a child’s recorder wake up at 6am and play it for 3 hours.

StoneofDestiny · 05/11/2022 21:54

Where do these people come from that think ownership (ie paying a mortgage) make you superior to paying a rent? It's bizarre.

StoneofDestiny · 05/11/2022 21:56

Yes - play some high pitched baby screaming/crying noises, so when he complains you are able to prove to environmental officers you have no baby yet!

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 05/11/2022 21:57

Whenever you go out leave some obscure radio station on. Loudly.

BettyPaws · 05/11/2022 21:57

You can report noise to the council so definitely find out how it works in your area and record as much of it as possible so you can prove what he is doing.

I would also try and work out where their bedroom is and if you can, make sure you sit right next to their wall while your newborn baby is crying all night 😃

He said to me "unfortunately for you, we own and you rent" when I politely asked him if he could turn his floodlight off and stop playing instruments at 11:30pm.

A diary is a good idea, thank you!

We have decided we will move when our lease is up which is a shame as we love the house but they are just nasty.

Same laws apply to owners op. Ime Council took action against owners when I have had cause to report over the years. Including ddog barking at stupid o clock and music playing after 10pm. They have shot themselves because if there is a paper trail against them they have to declare if they sell up. Wind chimes and festive lights all above board could be great revenge
Ime.

Fantastic idea! 😂 I'll see if I can remember "Three Blind Mice".

@elm26 Congratulations on your pregnancy, I'm sending you 'baby glue' xx

As for twunt neighbour. Keep a 'noise 'diary' start now and back date anything you can!!

then put in a complaint with the council (I assume it's council housing? If not obviously keep on at the landlord.

I'd develop a loving of baby music or classical music & play the same thing over & over & over whenever you can cope with it, or leaving playing when you go out.

Get DH (or you if you feel up to it) to mow the lawn, stopping & starting.

Borrow a friends yappy dog.

Report him every single tine he parks across spaces.

reporting is a pain in the arse, but look at it as a project. A project you really want to complete before your baby arrives!

Are you keeping your eye in houses you could bid on or swap with?

Rollercoaster1920 · 05/11/2022 22:05

As a tenant you are in a great position. Report him to the council noise team every time.

Your landlord may not like it but they aren't living there!

elm26 · 05/11/2022 22:05

@StoneofDestiny I honestly have no idea.

Our rent is extortionate at £2k a month thanks to the area we are in but we are unable to get a mortgage right now as DH has not had enough time on the books with his company.

@Pumpkinpatchlookinggood any suggestions? 🤭

@BettyPaws I am tempted to stand under his window with the baby in the night 😂

I feel for you, it's horrible and I'm glad you were able to take action! Wind chimes are tempting especially as I find them relaxing 😂

Thanks so much!

The diary is a good idea. We private rent and have mentioned to our landlord a couple of times and the response we get is "yeah lots of people dislike him" as if that helps!

@PurpleButterflyWings also the hells angels made me laugh so thank you!

Smile You're welcome!!! Also, I have no idea (like some others here) why some people have this bizarre idea that people who buy are more important than those who rent! It's very odd.

Brigante9 · 05/11/2022 22:32

Your landlord can’t get involved (been there, tried that). Log everything then call Environmental health. They came round for us and gave warnings. As a renter, you don’t have to worry about making complaints so report.

napody · 05/11/2022 22:37

Seconding the pps that say definitely report to the council - renting really goes in your favour here as the dispute will show up when he sells in future but won't affect you at all! A nice bit of schadenfreude to balance out all the shit he's putting you through :)
