Gallbladder

I'm currently 5 hours into gall bladder flare, I've been violently sick twice and taken pain killers. Anyone any suggestions to help I'm currently sitting up with hot water bottles front and back.
I don't know what to do about work tomorrow I'm hoping the pain has passed by then.
Anyone want to keep me company whilst I am awake.

Bless you, been there and done that, and more than got the T-shirt. It’s very painful, horrible. Hope it passes soon for you. Do you know when you’re having surgery?

maltesersarethedevil · 05/11/2022 02:10

I have coeliac disease too and saw the consultant last week. He's referred me for surgery but not sure how long I'll be waiting. After I was diagnosed coeliac I didn't have an attack for over a year and they've returned for some reason 😒

Have you tried a hot shower? Before I had the op to remove I used to kneel in the shower with the hot water directing at my back where the pain was worse, it sometimes helped sometimes didn't, I also used to sit against a radiator so a hot solid surface to keep me upright with a hot water bottle on my rib area.

It's awful and I sympathise with you massively. Hope you get it sorted soon Flowers

Thank you. I haven't yet tried either of those so a shower sounds like a good idea I'm going to go now and try it.

Thanks

Didn’t want to read and run. I sympathize and empathize as I suffered with this a few years ago.
My pain was not in my back but felt like I imagine a heart attack might feel, all in my chest.

I tried to control mine with a very low fat diet which worked (not that I was ever tempted to cheat!) for about a year.
When that failed I used to find spread eagled stretching over my kitchen table was a help.

Mine also used to come on about 2-3 in the morning. I’d take painkillers and then as it started to ease, would go and sit feet up on the sofa wrapped in warm dressing gown and a blanket until I fell asleep. I listened to a lot of audiobooks on headphones to try and provide a distraction!

I had keyhole surgery so was one of the lucky ones! No problems since but make sure you look after yourself afterwards. A friend had keyhole surgery and felt so well after it she went back to work early. She ended up back in hospital as one of her keyhole incisions herniated! Had to have another three weeks off!

💐for you maltesers and I hope the shower worked.

I hope your silence means you have nodded off OP. Well done for agreeing to surgery, I stupidly put up with it for so long until I felt ill constantly - I'd be in agony all night, and go to work, with residual pain and nausea until about 5pm the next day too (NHS and didn't want sick record). It became impossible to function, as felt ill all the time. The good news is, after key hole surgery I'm cured. Even morphine didn't touch my pain - that's what really frightened me, I knew it couldn't go on. I used to microwave bags of rice and tuck them under my ribs, but they had to be extremely hot, as a diversion if you like, and I was often left with red mottled skin the day after. I don't recommend that obviously! Try very hard to avoid fatty foods until they sort you out OP.

maltesersarethedevil · 05/11/2022 04:11

Thanks for the reply's. I did nod off for about an hour but I am back awake with my water bottles again. They have to be so hot they burn my skin to help. This is one of the longer ones I've had. I'm exhausted I just want to sleep.

Dear Malteaser fan.
please (if you feel up to it) search “natural ways to ease gall bladder flare up”.
I just did, and there are loads of suggestions.
maybe you have tried them all in preceding times, but surely it’s worth a look?
I had mine surgically removed many years ago.
I so wish that I’d had the internet in those times to refer to.
best wishes

Sometimes Buscopan is helpful.

Thank you all for being so kind. I am currently residing in hospital with acute cholecystitis x

So grim. I used the Tens machine I had in labour and found that helped a bit (although not as much as the morphine I got when I ended up in A&E a few times!). Hope you get it removed soon!

Pinkdelight3 · 05/11/2022 19:04

It's horrendous. Can the hospital not give you better pain relief? The only thing I found that made a difference when it got really bad was the hardcore meds in A&E. All the apple cider vinegar etc helped not one bit. Get it taken out asap.

Flowerpicker1 · 05/11/2022 19:05

Just to say wow I know the pain of gallbladder attacks. I had mine removed after suffering for about a year. Man it felt good to eat steak, burgers etc again without the fear

Sorry but my only relief was time and very strong painkillers which sometimes wouldn't even touch the sides.

My advice, whip it out. Hope you feel better soon 💐
