Bonfire night

Charcy · 04/11/2022 20:06

So. I KNOW I am BU to an extent. But I have a poorly baby. Who's just taken 2 hours to stop screaming and go to sleep and my house looks like a war zone.

We live on a tightly packed housing development. And some kind neighbours are setting off fireworks every 3 to 4 mins. Not even ones worth watching. And now the demon child is awake again as white noise does nowt to mask the noise.

I love bonfire night I do, and I KNOW the world doesn't revolve around my child. But organised events are happening. Am I BU to just think, fucking Go to an actual display and stop waking my child up before I have a breakdown 😭

YABU to have started yet another thread about this!

Confrontayshunme · 04/11/2022 21:44

At least you aren't under bombardment in Ukraine with your baby. Thank f*ck it is just people enjoying life and move on. You won't even remember this in a few years.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/11/2022 21:50

It's tough when littlies don't sleep. Good luck.

FlissyPaps · 04/11/2022 21:58

Move to a house in the middle of nowhere then.

I appreciate it’s annoying and I’m sorry your child is ill, however yes you’re right the world doesn’t revolve around you and your child.

Sadly you’ll need to suck it up. I’m sure there’ll be pleanty times in the future when your child is older and playing in the garden when your neighbours may be after a bit of peace.

Azandme · 04/11/2022 22:01

Before you had said child, did you ever have fireworks at home?

No, it's not easy when they won't sleep, but, as with most things, most people have been the noise makers in their time. It's the way of the world.

JoonT · 04/11/2022 22:02

It’s crazy that anyone over 18 can buy fireworks. There’s just no need. If people want to see them, they should go to properly organised events.

TheOtherWoman2 · 04/11/2022 22:03

its one night, give the child some Calpol or even better bit of brandy

LeevMarie · 04/11/2022 22:17

Some people here seem to be forgetting the torment of life with young children, in particular at bedtime when you've had a bastard of a day and just want some peace!

It's still in my recent memory, op, so you have my utmost sympathy. Hope you manage to get some quiet.

Also, I thought 'bonfire night' was the 5th November. Why are they going off now. It's a weird enough tradition to begin with.

PurpleNebula84 · 04/11/2022 22:20

Play Taiko drums on YouTube - there's one on there that is 10 hrs long. I play it for my dog to mask the sound of fireworks - it mostly works... The occasional close big one will upset him, but a complete game changer. Good luck xx

Oh fuck off. Fireworks are hugely distressing to many people and animals. Stop using the desperate situation in the Ukraine to make someone feel bad because they're desperate for their baby to sleep. You're an eejit.

ClandestineAdulation · 04/11/2022 22:33

YANBU. It’s not even bonfire night yet and I’m sick of fireworks being let off. Distressing for pets and wildlife, people with PTSD, people who have autism, people with dementia, Alzheimer’s, babies and children… the list could go on.

I think it’s wrong that anyone can buy fireworks and set them off without any experience or permission.

We had Diwali before bonfire night so I guess it seems like it's been going on for ages.

Nope. Much prefer the fun and environment of an organised display 😊

To us / them that have fought in a war. You wouldn't understand. Fireworks should be banned. Period.

I would like a compromise where members of the public are only allowed to buy silent fireworks- so they can enjoy the colours and spectacle without the violent explosions and din that terrifies pets, horses, babies, autistics and war veterans. The noisy fireworks could be restricted to professional displays and only allowed on Nov 5th and New Year’s Eve.

This too. I still remember watching a video at school when I was little about a teenager who'd let a firework off in a phone box and blew half his arm off. I've never had or gone to backyard displays

The sensible dream. I fully agree with this ❤️

Oh bless you! Totally feel you…and just when you’d got them off as well. That is low-key devastating. Hugs and hope that the poorly one recovers soon so you can get some sleep!
