Waitrose delivery - food use before 5 Nov

Just had Waitrose delivery. Tray of vegetables to be roasted plus fish curry both with use before tomorrow.

I'd never buy something with such a short life in the shop and I would have expected approx 4 days of "life". AIBU to complain to them?

Complain online, they generally refund those.

Sainsbury’s policy is to email you a notification of short dated items so you can reject them if they don’t suit.

BattenburgDonkey · 04/11/2022 11:12

If you want to complain then do so, I don’t understand why you are unsure? If they don’t agree they just won’t refund you I guess.

TheGirlWhoLived · 04/11/2022 11:13

Yeah just contact them and they’ll refund the item and usually let you keep it

Summerishere123 · 04/11/2022 11:14

Ive had the same and usually they refund them.

BingBangBollocks · 04/11/2022 11:14

Unusual for waitrose so I'd complain. They've always told me if it's a short use by date

HappyHamsters · 04/11/2022 11:16

Ring customeerservices, they will refund those short date items. 0800 188 881

EtonMusk · 04/11/2022 11:16

Knowing Waitrose I'm sure they will refund without question. But equally, why not just eat them tonight or tomorrow?
Would you have preferred them to not send them at all? Many people would then be complaining about too many out of stock items or substitutions.

Because I have other plans for tonight and tomorrow night. Is that acceptable?

You can request a refund for short dates from every single online supermarket.

Obviously if it’s something like veg you probably don’t want it all going off one 1 day but why cant you just eat or freeze the fish curry?
2 things on an entire food shop having a shorter date isn’t exactly the end of the world.

MabelMoo23 · 04/11/2022 11:20

Waitrose are really good at usually giving you it free with such a short date. That always happens normally. And you get option to keep for free or can return it to the driver, so at least giving option to eat that day or freeze - and it’s highlighted on the order breakdown that you get emailed to you on day of delivery.

that said, I had some chicken delivered by them with exact same problem, following day was use by date. I contacted the store that does the delivery and got a refund straight away - they didn’t even quibble it.
so occasionally things fall through the cracks but they rectified it immediately

Fucking hell what’s with all the arsey OPs now

CherylCrows · 04/11/2022 18:59

Why would you be unreasonable to complain

Anything with less than 2 days on it always complain and they will refund

iwantavuvezela · 04/11/2022 19:03

you will be refunded which you can do online - from a food wastage point of view see if it can be frozen to use later or you can put on olio perhaps for someone else to use

thismeansnothing · 05/11/2022 10:27

I'd complain.

Were told to send with at least 3 days shelf life on it. If it's short dated sub if they'll accept one. If not we've to send it for free.
