To take 4 month old to fireworks

Booked tickets (just cheap) to our local fireworks display going along with some of our extended family. Taking our 2 year old (who isn’t affected by loud noises/music) and 4 month old. I haven’t bought ear defenders for baby as figured she’d need a hat on anyway and paired with pramsuit hood would be sufficient? Or AIBU to not be using ear defenders? Or for just going at all?

I would take ear defenders for such a young baby tbh a hat isn't enough to protect their ears

SpookyMcGhoul · 03/11/2022 21:03

I thought the advice was ear defenders or don't go, especially for such a young baby. A hat and fabric suit won't do anything to stop the loud fireworks on delicate ears.

I would take ear defenders, just to protect the ears. I took my 9 month old and he refused to wear them 😅

Thanks that’s really helpful, I can get some tomorrow. It’s very new to me as having pandemic first child we’ve never had the opportunity to do these sorts of things!

Ahh so exciting!!! Enjoy!!

I took my nephew last year (seven months) and he loved the lights. Ear defenders gave him no bother and he really enjoyed himself 😊 they can be extendable too so they still fit him this year!

@SpookyMcGhoul aw that’s lovely, I’m hoping they will both enjoy it. It’s been so long. I’ve decided to get some for two year old too just in case. It’s been so long since attended a fireworks display, I fear I may have forgotten how loud they are.

Also something to protect the eyes - the bits that drop down can get in the eye. Happened to DS

Redredwine2 · 03/11/2022 21:15

@Pieceofpurplesky oh I’m so sorry to hear that, must have been awful. Was he ok?

I took all mine to fireworks when they were babies, youngest was 6 weeks. I took ear defenders every time but none of them needed them. I had them in the sling though so I kept their ears covered with a hat and the noise was probably muffled by my boobs, I think that kept them happy!

You need ear defenders.

@Redredwine2 he was fine, just sore eyes for a couple of days. It was windy and the ambulance people were inundated! Kid were all looking up!
