sorry, posting here for traffic.

I had my smear test two weeks ago and I’ve been anxiously awaiting my results.

tonight, i received a text (annoyingly 45 minutes before the practice closed) saying that my results revealed Candida and that a prescription would be sent to my chemist.

Oh, and I should collect a form for my annual blood test (assuming because I take SSR’s).

The text however, made no reference to whether the smear itself was Ok or if anything else came up. I called the surgery (my anxiety wouldnt let me not) and waited on hold for an hour before being cut off. I now have to wait until tomorrow.

Is it likely that this means the smear was OK?

@Justpondering12 , do speak to your gp if this is causing you anxiety, but try not to let your thoughts run away - it’s really common

Traisonthewine78 · 13/11/2022 21:14

Hello, i got the same, HPV and borderline cell changes. I have a colposcopy on the 29th.

I was in a right state but calmed down now. Hope it all goes well for you x

Justpondering12 · 13/11/2022 23:06

Thank you @Traisonthewine78 you too ❤️

OP do you mean you take SSRIs? I do too but haven't been told to take annual bloods so just curious.

smelliphant · 13/11/2022 23:12

@EmmaAgain22 I thought exactly that! I've been taking SSRIs for years and haven't had a blood test to check anything. I know it's not the point of this thread, but I'm a bit concerned now!

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 13/11/2022 23:16

Had borderline/pre cancer diagnosis twice. You will be absolutely fine. It is quickly and easily resolved. Apparently women have these changes and they usually go unnoticed as they mainly correct themselves between smears. I understand the anxiety as I felt anxious initially but soon realised it was unnecessary.

Justpondering12 · 13/11/2022 23:22

Sorry @EmmaAgain22 and @smelliphant ive since received clarification on this point. No, the bloods aren’t because I take SSRIs. I had a routine blood test last year that showed I have low B12, they can’t to do a follow up.

OP posts:
Justpondering12 · 13/11/2022 23:23

They want to do a follow up, that should say.

Thank you, I just want it over with before the start of the new year xxxx

Mine was dealt with within 1 to 2 appointments. They did a colposcopy where they look at the cervix (painless for me) and biopsied it (almost painless). In one case the biopsy removed it and I had to have the other cut out but both outpatient appointments and done in no time. They can tell a lot from the colposcopy there and then and my biopsy results took a couple of weeks. Depending on when you go in then it's absolutely possible to be done by the new year. Please try not to worry. X

Trees6 · 14/11/2022 00:23

I had a colposcopy (for cell changes) in 2007. It was nothing like as bad as I’d imagined.

I’m very hopeful. Colposcopy Wednesday, and given it’s a private hospital there should be less of a delay x

I’m going to take diazepam and just wear my big girl pants lol x

just returned from my colposcopy.

@Traisonthewine78 Honestly, it was easier and less uncomfortable than the smear I had at the GP surgery!! I did take my diazepam and two ibuprofen before I went in though.

The nurse thinks that I have mostly CIN1 but took a biopsy of what she said looked like a small, denser area and is hopeful it’s just CIN2. Now just to await those results. Half of this is done but still petrified despite reassurances from the lovely nurse that this is not cancer. Thanks for all the responses x

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 16/11/2022 13:32

I was told the exact same thing - that I had CIN1 but it could be CIN2. I had CIN1. She wasn't worried in any case.

Tdcp · 16/11/2022 13:49

Don't worry OP, I know every situation is different but I had CIN3 at age 28, I was given a LLETZ treatment and it hasn't recurred (now 36)

Traisonthewine78 · 16/11/2022 14:14

Aw thanks for letting me know.

I've never found smears uncomfortable at all do fingers crossed my colposcopy isn't too bad.

Glad it looks like good news for you.

Justpondering12 · 28/11/2022 10:51

Hi all, resurrecting this post as I’m in a bit of a state.

I’ve just received news on the biopsy (they’ve included the lab report which is very confusing and uses words i dare not google).

We have now received your cervical biopsy result, including attached supplementary report. The biopsy was adequate for a full histological assessment and has confirmed there was a lesion which associated with CIN HPV-related changes (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia), but it was difficult to grade an exact type on existing sample (please see attached a full histopathology result).
Therefore, it would be recommended according to the current NHS CSP guidelines to have further investigation such as a diagnostic local excisional biopsy (known as LLETZ). LLETZ procedure can be done under local or general anaesthetic depends on your wishes.
^^
At the current time you have two options, depending on your personal circumstances and eligibility for NHS services.
^^
One option is to see your GP as soon as possible to arrange an urgent referral to Colposcopy Department for above mentioned procedure to be done via NHS.
^^
Another option will be to go via private healthcare route, therefore to make an appointment with Dr XXX to discuss the result and further management. We will also request a supplementary report (second look by another expert) from histopathology department and will be in touch with result as soon as it’s ready.

Up until this point I’ve been fairly relaxed, the Colposcopist reassured me several times that we weren’t talking CC, just changes but this for some reason has spun me into level 80 anxiety mode.

The report included a confusing histology and conclusion.

if anyone can talk me down, I’d be most grateful xx

Morning

I am sure it's just saying there are cell changes (which you knew) that aren't cancer, and they recommend the standard NHS treatment for removal. Could be CIN1 or CIN2, neither of which are cancer.

I'd have shit them too receiving that. The langauge isn't very accessible is it.

On the NHS I think they'd have done the LLETZ there and then, they like to have it one and done if possible.

merlotlover · 28/11/2022 11:15

I had the colposcopy lletz thing as I had cin 3
The nurses were so nice
It's uncomfortable but not awful and we just talked about primark the whole time 😅
I then had more regular smears for three years and then back to three yearly
Just recently had one and again all clear. The procedure was 12 years ago now and all's been fine 🤗

Justpondering12 · 28/11/2022 11:16

@Traisonthewine78 thank you for replying.

I have to say, I do regret going private. I still have my original NHS colposcopy appointment, I think I’m going to go to it and ask if they can just get on with the LLETZ there and then.

The language used isnt helpful! Xxx

@merlotlover ive only heard really good things about the service provided by the NHS. Mine was cold and sterile, no nurse to keep my calm. I felt bad for using the service when I had the option to go private but I’m now convinced they’re stringing this out to get more from my insurer.

When is your NHS appt?

I'd call up the appointment line and let them know about your private results, then go along for the LLETZ.

I had to ring the appt line to confirm i could attend and the lady on the phone asked if i had any questions, she was really knowledgeable so might be able to put your mind at ease if you call them. I think it's different region by region. Xx

Bronnau · 28/11/2022 11:27

Just wanted to send you a hug OP. I had CIN 3 and CGIN, had to have 2 Lletz and a colposcopy before I was given the all clear. I was so very nervous and anxious. I got a lot of support from the Jo's Trust website. It's so natural to worry, but honestly, these are preventative steps and they're the reason smears are so important- They catch it before it's anything huge! Please be kind to yourself x

Justpondering12 · 28/11/2022 11:47

@Traisonthewine78 its the 13th. I’m going to go along to that and start again. I don’t want to tell them now, that I’ve been private, they might be a bit funny about me using the NHS service?

@Bronnau im calm about having these procedures until the nagging voice in my head puts the fear back in me that this is far worse than pre-cancerous cells and that it’s something far worse x
