For the best work/life balance, how many weeks work until you take annual leave?

The title probably doesn't make sense.

In an ideal world (as I do know those who are self-employed can't always take A/L) how many weeks straight would you work before you took a weeks annual leave?

Forgetting the fact that a lot of us have to take it in half term etc

I think at least a day every 6 weeks is ideal for me.

School holidays obviously make this trickier but I hold back around 5 days to take during term time to do things I want to do, have date days with DH, sometimes just chill out and read a book. We don't have any family support so it's pretty much the only time I get that isn't working or looking after the kids so I don't feel too guilty about it involving extra time in holiday clubs for the kids

i've worked with people who would save up most of their annual leave and have 4-6 weeks off in one go.

Ideally I think the school holiday system is perfect. I start to feel in need of a break after 6 weeks or so.

But practically I don't have 13 weeks annual leave a year so I try and have 2 weeks in summer, one at Christmas and one in April time plus a few long weekends. I prefer to work a long period and have a longer period off because I like to fully reset myself

After June I usually take about 5 days every 4 to 6 weeks to October but after that, other than a few extra Christmas days, I don't take a whole week off until following July normally so about 6 months. It's a long while but I don't want to waste leave in the winter.

Now my DC are grown up and use of my AL is no longer dictated by school holidays I try to space my AL out so that I am never working longer than about 10 weeks without using some AL

I work PT though (0.6WTE) which makes a huge difference as I get a long weekend every week. If I worked FT then I imagine I would be really ready for a break every 6 weeks or so!

That's interesting and helpful.
I've worked 9 weeks and feeling desperate for a week off, I'm finally in a position where I can choose my A/L and wondered if it was normal to feel this exhausted after 9 weeks of full time work.
DH has a physical job and practically zero A/L, I don't know how he does it.

I stick to school holidays but timing wise find it works well. A week over Easter, two weeks in August and a week over Xmas. After this I have 2 weeks left so try and book a few long weekends over the year, spread out.
