I saw this today and it bugged the hell out of me, so I commented on the misogyny. Most of the replies said 'can't you take a joke?'
WIBU to comment, or should I have scrolled on?

You're not wrong.

If that was a "joke" made against a black person or disabled person then it would have been called out as racist or discriminating against disability. There would be no joke element accepted (and rightly so) but as it is aimed at women then we are to keep quiet, accused of having no sense of humour or we are snowflakes.

Can't see it, you have to log in and I don't have an account. Can you post it here so we can all see?

ReneBumsWombats · 03/11/2022 15:48

It took me a few moments to get it.

I don't find it funny but it doesn't offend me deeply. You've got the right to say if it offends you and nobody is obliged to "take a joke" if they don't want to.

It's a picture offering financial advice, of a man being advised to walk clear of a woman.

PollyAmour · 03/11/2022 15:50

I'm being completely thick but I don't understand what the picture is meant to represent.

Save money by avoiding women?

WallaceinAnderland · 03/11/2022 15:50

I don't get it either, can someone explain. Is the man crossing the road to avoid the woman?

Yes. It's a joke about women costing men money.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest
It's just a joke

Yes. Avoiding women = more money in your pocket

I sort of get it - everyone I know who's recently had a baby, wanted to TTC the most and their male partners just went along with it

WallaceinAnderland · 03/11/2022 15:54

I guess the clue is that he asked an OLD man for advice and 70 years ago, women would not have been able to earn their own money?

Onlyforcake · 03/11/2022 15:54

I don't get it. But I see it explained.
Stay single is fairly decent (probably more realistic) advice for women, so is that andrist?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 03/11/2022 15:57

You could change that to safety advice for women ...

How do you know that level of detail about the desires of everyone in several couples?

supersop60 · 03/11/2022 16:29

It's the whole ' It's a joke' thing that annoys me. It's implying - hahaha yes women do use up all men's money, isn't that hilarious?
No it's not.
Women are (generally) able to look after themselves financially. A working adult does not need to be 'taken care of' by another.
For me, personally, I have lost money due to 'helping' men, or following a man's advice, and I wish I'd been advised to cross the road.
Or better yet - I wish I'd had better financial education and some stronger boundaries!
can of worms opened

healthadvice123 · 03/11/2022 17:14

Its just a joke and its true for most having a partner costs you money and changes your financial circumstances in many cases, that goes for men and women though

PollyAmour · 03/11/2022 17:33

Not Facebook but this jokey doormat pissed me off today - for sale in Aldi. Why should us wives have to pretend not to buy stuff for ourselves? Most women I know earn their own money. This suggests women are spending HIS money on fripperies.

Or do I completely lack a sense of humour?

Tbf we had threads here about marrying well...

Getoff · 03/11/2022 17:52

Far more men than women have had to work say an extra 10 years to make up what they lost in a divorce settlement.

CallieQ · 03/11/2022 18:00

Totally agree with you. It’s this kind of misogyny that is so ingrained in society that people don’t even recognise it. It’s not ‘just a joke’ even though I’m sure that would be the response of many, including women.

interstatelovesong · 03/11/2022 18:05

I don't like this either OP, it smacks of the whole women are gold diggers narrative from some men. Never mind that many of us bear their kids then do the majority of the childcare thus enabling their careers for years and years, while missing out on our own career development and earning potential

And in how many cases had the woman given up her income for many years to raise their children?!

Really? As in set your cap at the high earner in the office rather than the gorgeous hall porter?

I would be ashamed to admit that my choice of husband was based on his income and assets and not because he is absolutely lovely and I fancy the pants off him.

Footballers' wives get sneered at - this isn't any different.
