to my dentist about a partial denture I'm not happy with.
I have lost a front tooth (one next to my front two) due to a broken crown which took the remaining tooth with it.
My NHS dentist has made a partial denture to fill the gap. I've been back today because I can't close my back teeth together with it in.
He has adjusted it slightly and said that because I don't need the tooth for eating I can remove it to chew.
The back teeth are a little closer together but still don't meet and my bottom front teeth rub against the plate.
I feel like going back again to get it adjusted further and would like to insist that it is adjusted enough for me to chew with it in.
YABU- the dentist is right not to make the plate too thin and you need to get used to it.
YANBU- Go back. You should need to remove a tooth to be able to eat and a denture should not cause an open bite.

*shouldn't need to remove a tooth.

it sounds like your bite is really tight so there is little room for the denture which has to be a certain thickness to stay intact. If you post a picture of the denture from the side I might be able to give more advice but understand if you don’t want to.

A very good dentist described a denture as being an alternative to having no teeth rather than an alternative to your own teeth.

I hope you get used to it!

Thanks for your reply Oinkypig.
I attached a few pictures for you to look at to see what you think.
