A friend doesn't have a car for 3 weeks so I'm taking her child home from school. I collect my dd from the same school & have my baby with me. After I have collected dd I pick up ds from another school & then my older two kids from a school bus stop. I have a very tight timetable as I can't be late for the bus.

Last week this other mum asked me to take to her house two other kids - as she'd normally collect them from school on mon & tues. I don't know their parents. I agreed last week as the parents might not have been able to find another solution but today it was the same story - me with my littleones & three others.

I get to her house & she says can I take one of the kids to his grans house tomorrow instead of her house after school. I say no as it seems to be a complete advantage of my good will.

I feel the other kids parents could sort themselves out rather than expect a mum they've not met or spoken to to be picking up their kids from school. Plus they could ring to say thank you as I've gone to some effort to help them.

Just keep saying no.

I hope she was offering you money for the extra petrol you are using.

I don't have a car during the week and a freind sometimes picks dd1 up from nursery or we go out of an afternoon and she drives, she wont take money from me so i give her flowers or wine as a thank you.

blimey some people take the mick

cupsoftea · 21/02/2008 22:32

that's thoughtful & nice of you lizzymum. They weren't offering anything - the two other parents didn't even say thank you for the three times I collected their kids from school!

mazzy - ready for her next call.

Gosh what a cheek from both your friend and the other mums who's kids you were collecting! I couldn't believe they were happy with someone they'd never met collecting their children.

I unfortunatly tend to think the best of people, so began thinking maybe they have enough faith in your friend to trust a person she asks, but it became clear as the thread went on they simply don't seem bothered! How bloody rude!

That's a lovely gesture, lizzymum.

She did what??!!! Unbelievable!
And, a big well done cupsoftea - did you feel good saying a resounding 'No!' to the other person? Maybe she thought that as some time had passed sine you last said no to her, you might have forgotten your new stance on the matter. I hope you got all your children off to their respective schools alright? Also, get yourself a big cup of tea, cupsoftea - sounds like you'll be needing it to get through the day if you've not had much sleep.
